Photographer’s Note
What is Palm Sunday?
On Palm Sunday, Christians celebrate the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death and resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as "Passion Sunday", marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday.
The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him with waving palm branches, and by covering his path with the same. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, He begins his journey to the cross.
Taken at the Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, La Placita in downtown Los Angeles. Most of the parishioners here are of Mexican and Central American descent.
And, today btw I am celebrating as well my third year with Trekearth. There are much more to learn, so i am here to stay....:-)

Hi Ben,
here you are...nice to see an image from you. It seems your work gave you a break...or not? I would not know this is in LA if you don't mention. An interesting scene from your city. I like the approach. The tangential light defines a nice highligh/shadow play in the whole scene. Great one...and keep sharing!
Happy TE birthday!

Hello Benedict,
Congratulations for your first third year on TrekEarth, its really a meaningful milestone.
Your capture included rarely available scene about celebrating Palm Sunday. It's an excellent post for homage. I liked mixed of white-red and your eye contact with young gentleman. Congratulations.

Hijo...'Musta na? Kababalik ko lang from 'Pinas and it is overwhelming to sort and organize over 8,000 pics after two months. It truly was fun and I am now seriously considering Cebu as a retirement area. I do like the hint of light on the boy's face, the religious gestures highlight the occasion. I was in Baclaran during Palm Sunday - but have not really looked at my photos - too busy. Ingatz...Danilo

hey, my belated congratulations for your third anniversary in TE, Benedict. Hope to see you around for many more years - we still have a long way to go to complete the world map ;-) Indeed, this seems more like Mexican - the sign for tamales and nachos gives no space for doubt. But then again, last time I went to NYC I thought many times I was in Spain...I actually like that mix of cultures. Nice reportage image here - the acolit holding the cross seems pretty satisfied with life.
um abraço,

Hi Benedict,
You framed this well, I especially like the way you included the tamales & Nachos sign. You got good detail in spite of the very difficult light.

I suppose that the composition lacks a bit of refinement, with the action being rather disjointed. It needed something to bring it all together. For example the priest at the back is looking out of the frame and we don't quite know at what, So it the main subject, the altar boy, who’s face catches the sun. The guy on the right is exiting the frame, leaving us, not knowing what we should be looking at. However, on the other hand, it conveys the sense of color and excitement of the occasion and is a very enjoyable image. Regards kevin

Hi Benedict,
As this is in the USA, even without note I could guess it's among a Catholic community, like the Mexicans and other Latinos.
Despite Kevin's critique, I think it's a very good view of this detail of the event, where many things happen at same time.
Greetings,
F.
