Cathedral of Limburg Photo

Photographer’s Note

Last week I once again visited the cathedral of Limburg in the federal state Hessen - one of the oldest German cathedrals.
While viewing this magnificent building on this morning with only few visitors I was addressed by a very amicable sister who conducts guided tours there. She offered to open the access to the circular gallery of the cathedral for me and so I have had the opportunity of taking pictures from this very special point of view. This is a stitch of two photos and I dare to show you this view with the optically caused "natural" distortion because I think this sight is worth it. I hope you do not slam me ...

Bonjour Frank,
cette puissante déformation transforme cette cathédrale en batiment futuriste comme on en voit des fois dans les films de fiction. Il n'empeche que le grand angle est un moyen efficace de pouvoir montrer beaucoup. Cela vaut bien quelques distorsions.

beinahe hätten wir uns getroffen,denn an dem Tag war ich auch dort gewesen,
dein Bild ist sehr schön,gute Schärfe,sehr gute Belichtung und mit vielen interessanten Details zu sehen,
bestimmt eine schwierige Aufnahme aber ist dir äußerst gelungen,ich schätze mal du hast ein Objektiv mit sehr kurzer Brennweite benutzt,auf jeden Fall super gemacht!

Die Sache mit dem Schwester werde ich per e-mail fragen ! Aber die Aufnahme hier (insbesondere Dank dem hervorragenden Standpunkt) ist bestens gelungen.
Tolles graphisches Effekt. Wo war es gesticht ? Ich denke horizontal irgendwo oberhalb des zweiten Stockwerks, oder ?
So oder so, volltreffer !

Ein interessantes Ergebnis mit dieser Verzerrung,aber trotzdem ein sehr gutes Architekturfoto.Von Deinem POV erkennt man die wahre Größe dieser Kathedrale.

das war natürlich eine Gelegenheit, die ich auch nicht ausgelassen hätte! Aber das Bild ist dennoch gewöhnungsbedürftig... Trotzdem, danke für ein tolles Dokument und den Einblick in ein majestätisches Bauwerk!

Indeed a fantastic cathedral. The distortions do not matter, when one can see this much of the whole beautiful interior. Good colours and clarity. The WS is welcomed too and thanks for the link to your earlier photo of the exterior, which also is worth to view.

dank der netten Schwester Theresia und deinen technischen Fähigkeiten ein beeindruckendes Bild der Kathedrale. Die Grösse von diesem Bauwerk kommt voll zur Geltung und die Verzerrungen stören mich hier überhaupt nicht. Der Stitch ist ebenfalls toll gelungen. Nur an den rechten Säulen sieht man geringe Abweichungen. Die nicht ganz einfache Belichtung im Inneren der Kathedrale hast du meiner Meinung nach perfekt ausgeführt. Gute Schärfe und Details in Hülle und Fülle. Toole Arbeit. Mein Kompliment.

Yes, the balloon effect is quite surprising and the stitches are not perfect, but I am glad to accept such distortions to get such a fine and clear view of the interior of this beautiful church. You were lucky to find this point of view.

To capture the total internal height of this cathedral must have been a certain challenge. But you really mange to mediate the feeling of grandness here, a very impressive view!

Hello Frank,
Interested place, and interested architecture. It does not cause, that the photo has so great distortion. Exist programs which cope with this problem. Here this distortion does not hinder. Pleases to me the point of view, which you could have at his disposal thanks the sister Theresa. Photo in workshop also interested, but have not yet of such emotional remittance as the original.

I find it amazing that you are able to squeeze all the interior details into this wide angle view and although a little optical distortion, the proportion is showing a great view of the wonderful deco. Just enough light for the exposure to show nnicely. Good work.
