Photographer’s Note
‘Prague - Street scene‘
This shot is taken in Prague on a small square close to the Charles Bridge.
I tried a little experiment. Regulary I see pictures on TE where the photographer has chosen for a partial desaturation. Today I did the same with this street scene in Prague.
Of all the different colours on the original picture I decided to keep the red, the most vivid one.
In the workshop you see the same square but with all the colours. I wasn’t sure which one of both photos I should post as main picture and for a long time I thought I’d better post the experiment in the workshop (I mean: ‘hide’ it in the workshop).
Finally I did the opposite.
Well, here they are !

Ciao Paul,
un effetto sfruttato, ma sempre di grande impatto visivo.
Il contrasto tra la zona desaturata e il rosso del semaforo e del tram, e davvero notevole!
Ti faccio i miei complimenti!

Hi Paul. Nice work with the PP, I’ve played with this type of thing myself but have nothing good enough to post yet. The main subject certainly stands out from the BG. Well composed also. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good weekend, Paul.

Hello Paul,
May be many people here inside this photo also looking to these red objects, drivers looking to 'Red' light of traffic lights and red lights of vehicles' signal lamps, passengers looking to the destination of these red buses, impressive scene with focus to the red, well done.

hi Paul
I find a good job done in pp work because your main post is interesting in showing the electric bus and a window for a red theme. I think if you use the original as main post, it will hardly need a desaturated WS. A good daily life scene showing architecture, street life and transportation in urban living.

Hi paul, the partial desaturation works well here. he black and white gives it a dated, retro effect and the red give the street scene a dash of exciting colour. regards Kevin

Hello Paul
I am quite a fan of partial desaturation and occasionally do it myself for a variety of reasons. And so I always like seeing other peoples creations. Red was the only colour you could have retained. Well done, Marlene

Hi Paul, A superb B/W colour combination, the buildings make for a wonderful backdrop & the people add great interest to this excellent street scene, you have captured the tram moving through the shot nicely & I love the decision to keep the red lights, it works well, kind regards Wilson.

Hi Paul
I have done this a couple of times and I find it quite effective. I like how you included the red traffic light and tail light. It really draws our attention to the buses.
Nicely done.

Hi Paul, this is an excellent B& W conversion and a great choice to "colour-pop" the part in red. The architecture (something Prague is so famous for) has been rendered beautifully and I like that you've included all the people, it really gives the city "life". Great job, Lisa.

Bonjour Paul,
bonne idée que de désaturer l'image en ne laissant que le tram et les feux en rouge , je devrais m'en inspirer un peu plus souvent .

Hi Paul,
Good use of the partial desaturation technique to highlight the main subjects and give a retro view to the rest of the scene. I like it. The red color is very eyecatching. Well done!

Hi Paul,
the selective saturation technique is quite delicate to amanage, as sometimes the result works very well, but sometimes it is atually a trick to hide an otherwise trivial shot. Here the position of the trolley car is perfect, creating a spot of colour not too localized.
Well done and impressive but, to be honest, I would have avoided the other two red-spots (the traffic light and the car lamp). Dario.
