Photographer’s Note
This is the monument to Henryk Sienkiewicz in Lazienki Park, Warsaw. He is the author of many long books, including "Quo Vadis?", his most famous one outside Poland, for which he got a Nobel Prize. At least two movies were made based on the book (one a Hollywoood production with many famous actors including Peter Ustinov) and one mini series in Italy. It tells the story of early Christians in Roman Empire and our beloved tractor factory Ursus takes it's name from one of the heroes of the book.
Never one of my favourite authors, he was even described as "a first grade second grade writer" by one of our more recent literary figures (Gombrowicz). He remains a part of our culture though.
