Photographer’s Note
hard to believe it's been two years since I posted my first photo on TrekEarth. meanwhile I've made many friends here, found teachers and mentors, and, above all, realised how little I know and how much there is to learn. but it is still fun, so I'm not complaining. thanks to everyone, I'm having great time here :)
about the photo: another title for this shot could be "making of "The Cookie" - as you can see, Kristaps is busy creating this photo in the Lauca National Park with volcán Parinacota hiding under the clouds and Lago Chungara shining in the capricious afternoon sun.

Hi Kristine,
congratulations! I have just replied Fulvio and we were talking about this experience. I said to him: "we keep moving forward together". We can't do anything alone...this site is trully a wonderful place for learning. Very dramatic scene. I like to see the heavy clouds above this beautiful land.

very nice landscape image, great depth! And including the person in the image gives an idea of the scale of the landscape.

Wow, Kristine, that is an amazing image - I like the self-portrait part, too, but the depth and wide perspective lend a sense of movement to those clouds. Wonderful colors and clarity.
Congrats!

Hello Kristine ,
Congratulations for your 2 years on TE . With a great picture for this anniversary . A splendid wild landscape , of course , with wonderful colors and games of light and shade . And what a gorgeous sky ! The presence of the man and your shade provide a little touch of humour (or humanity) in this so incedible scenery .
Congratulations

Very nice POV for this landscape with a very well DOF handling. Light is also great and your long shadow is an extra point.
What a beautiful nature paradise.

Hello Kristine! You are among THE photographers on this website that reached an amazing quality "top notch" with an own handwriting - your own special style ... I am glad that you still talk to me :))) It is a pure pleasure to open each of your posts with your wonderful side notes that many times make me smile and gave me shivers at some points like loosing your material but heaven ... it came back. What a wonderful land and it is this tiny thing again that makes this picture big like seeing you and your man under these huge cloud base. WOW! Warm regards, Barbara.

Two years, uh? Congratulations, Kristine.
A truly majestic shadowplay and brilliant colors, which special praise for the funnel effect created by the wide angle. Which is stunning, the eye gets literally sucked into the picture and towards the volcano. No doubt, a great shot to celebrate the occasion! My compliments. Have a great day, I'll be seeing you.
Fulvio.

Hello Kristine,
Nice composition using well the rendering of the wide angle lens, especially on the clouds (we have the feeling they are moving inside the frame thanks to the perspective effect).
Very nice light and fun to have your shadow on the photo.
It is really a landscape from end of the Earth as the ones I like to see and to experience :-)

What an incredibly, incredibly, incredibly, incredibly beautiful photography.
two years on TE ???
Why we, the humans - why we do those things to ourselves ?
What kind of a perverted masochism prompts us to do IT ?
Well..WE just do it - against all the logic of the world.
Absolutely wonderful production, dear Kristine.
Your two years is right there, in your photo. The very essential core of these two years.
All the best with your passion. Don't let them stop you in your run.

Hi, Kristine -
Two years, huh? I don't know whether to say there's hope for me yet, or to shudder on behalf of both of us!
Putting a photographer's shadow into the shot can spoil it, but here it works well, giving us a strong sense of the vastness of the landscape (which wide-angle sometimes obliterates), so it was a great idea. (I have to admit I almost missed the person to the left of him; he blends in so well.) Great bands of light, shadow and cloud, too, all well captured.
Best,
Dan

Congratulations Kristine,
TE is certainly richer with a member like you, with all your photos and meaningful comments, and passion for learning and improvement. I wish you much more of all of it here! :)
Very nice light and play with the shadow - wonderfully chosen for the occasion - don't we all sometimes feel burdened and under pressure in this life-long learning process just like this ground under the heavy (looking) clouds? But its the clear horizon and the light in front! I see Kristaps is also heading towards it :)
Many kind regards to both

Hi, Kristine. A wonderful sky that really seems to weigh on the earth with those big clouds spreading like a fan. The ochre tones are very warm and contrast well with the clouds. Kristaps and your shadow are nice additions - if I may say - giving the scale of the landscape. Fantastic light.
Have a nice day,

Kristine,
thanks for two years of wonderful photos shared. Good thing is the cookies is only here a few weeks ago, otherwise we'll all have to hit the gym more often than sitting here writing critiques.
Love the dramatic sky, fantastic really, there is just enough light for wonderful shot, the inclusion of Kristaps give a nice scale, he is not so big after all. and your shadow is a perfect tought. I love it. Thanks

The clouds are really scaring... but they make an awfully good effect on the photo! Perfect light and DOF. You seem to contradict the "iron" rule not to show our own shade, but actually being so small it doesn't disturb (perhaps a professional would have avoided it). Congratulation for the two years and thank you for the cookie.

Amazing shot with such dramatic light and colours...I love it! I like how Kristaps is taking a photo down there, he almost blends in with the scenery. I also like the long shadow of yourself, but most of all I love the scenery. Excellent POV and great work!

Hi Kristine,
Congratulations for having survived two years in the TE jungle ;-)
You are showing here a place that I was not supposed to visit, but that I liked, in fact I diverted to Chile in 95 because there was state of emergency in Bolivia, where I returned the following year and everything was fine. What I like in this image are the feeling of space and the 3D volume you get from the clouds, the rendering is quite different than on Kristaps' image, on yours it would be possible to miss the laguna.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Kristine,
Congratulations with your 2nd anniversary here on TE !
This 'meeting' of the vulcano top and the clouds is a splendid nature picture.
The brown yellow colour of the foreground and of the mountain behind the lake is very good here and contrasts nice with the small parts of blue sky.
I think the shadow of the photographer is more an added value on this picture than the man who's standing left of it. Well, that's my idea.
This picture is a fantastic invitation to visit the Lauca National Park.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Kristine!
Congratulations for your two years on TE! You produced already a good amount of jewels, from yellowstone to Chile, you have enchanted my eyes.
This one is striking again. (Although, I must confess, I prefer lake Tuyajito). But the low sky is great, with an effect of speed very well done. The deep green of the water, enhanced by the golden light on the shores, is surprising and beautiful. I am less enthusiastic with your both silhouettes included in the shot but what would be a birthday party without people, hum?!?

Dear Kristine
2 years celebration with a self portrait of sorts....a fine idea indeed! I have not been getting time of late due to my beibg in Bombay for the last couple of weeks...have come home yesterday again to take family there for a couple of days etc...etc.... Life is going to be a roll for the next one month at least! Anyway no point boring you with these details!
A great use of wide lens here and also the play of light & shade. The clouds seems to radiate out from the centre, just above the volcano. The light filtering through the clouds turns the land jutting into the lake, golden.
Lovely work & congratulations on your second anniversary here...you're an asset to this site.
Best Regards
Angshu
Don't bother to reciprocate...I am just into TE after quite a while, apart from a few sporadic critiques

Hi Kristine,
An original self-portrait to commemorate your 2nd anniversary here. Congratulations!
Your gallery of Chile is awesome! The wild beauty of the landscapes, the special quality of light and those skies that seem to only be found in very high desert altitudes surely help you, but those factors are at most half of the ingredients of great photos like these.
I really don't know what to say. Enumerate the many things that make it so dramatically attractive? How is just perfect in every technical or aesthetic detail?
Congratulations again and TFS.
Regards, José.

Hi Kristine,
it sucks... been back and have hardly any time for TE...again (you thought i was reffering to the photo, didn't you :P). Two years you say...wow... admiring! But it is not so much how long but what you have to show and girl, you really are one talended photographer! This serie from Chile is amazing and hopefully i will find time to praise all photos cause they do deserve all the praise there is. What a depth on this one! What a scenery that sucks you in with warp 10. Simply astonishing. Wide angle here does the magic and even enhances this feeling thru shadows in foreground. Breathetaking!
Best regards,

Hi Kristine,
With such a dramatic sky, initially it's easy to miss what I think is the real heart of this photo: the pair of you each striving together to capture another of your glorious works. The bond between your silhouette and Kristaps makes the foreground as impressive as the sky,
HLJ, Pat
PS congratulations on your 2nd anniversary, I have enjoyed your work greatly
