Photographer’s Note

The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the King of Spain, located in Madrid. King Juan Carlos and the royal family do not reside in this palace, instead choosing the smaller Palacio de la Zarzuela, on the outskirts of Madrid. However, the Palacio Real de Madrid is still used for state occasions. The palace is owned by the Spanish state and administered by the Patrimonio Nacional agency. The palace also has the distinction of being the largest royal palace in Western Europe in size, with over a combined area of over 135,000 m² and more than 2,800 rooms.
The palace is located on Bailén street, in the western part of downtown Madrid, east of the Manzanares River, and is accessible from the Ópera metro station. The palace is partially open to public, except when in official use.

Hello Gerrit.
you should have been there in the morning judging by the few persons in the frame, as when I went there the place was full of persons inside and out.
You got a nice angle on the palace, and you give us a nice feeling of the place with the wide angle.
The light is also nice and make the walls contrast well against the sky.

Nog nooit op dit plein geweest, het ziet er wel bijzonder indrukwekkend uit. De leegte wordt hier zeer effectief benut en prachtig belicht, niets op aan te merken, prima fotowerk! Ik wens je nog een fijne avond, tot gauw.

Hi Gerrit,
I like the way you have captured the wonderful detail in the building, the low cross light has really accentuated this. I'm not too sure about the people but they do add a sense of scale to the image.
Wonderful capture though, the golden light is simply magical.

Dag , Gerrit. Een indrukwekkend gebouw waarvan we de afmetingen kunnen raden dankzij de twee mensen midden in de foto. Het paleis komt goed uit op de lucht. De lijnen aan de rechterkant staan een beetje schuin, die had je misschien recht moeten zetten, maar met zo'n breed gebouw was het misschien moeilijk.

I have tried several times to get a good photo of the palace but without any success, your picture is very good and the impressive facade with the superb golden tones looks beautiful. Good POV, sharpness and frame. You captured the palace at the right time with good light creating a great atmosphere.
