Apolyont, the fishing village from which the lake took its name, is now known as Gölyazi. Shaded by ancient plane trees it is attractively situated about 5km/3mi off the main road on the northeast shore, on a peninsula linked to the mainland by a causeway. In antiquity the lake was called Lacus Appolonia after Appolonia, a town famous for its temple cult and ruins (including remains of a theater, stadium and temple of Apollo from the fifth century B.C.) which today lie partly buried beneath the village.

There was very probably a Greek town here, resettled in Hellenistic times. By the 14th century it was described as virtually uninhabited and falling into disrepair, with four ramparts and surrounded by water. In the 19th century it was said to be a prosperous small town with a mainly Greek population and a castle.

Bu nedenle her zamanki açılardan farklı olarak, bir balıkçı teknesiyle göle açıldığım için, gölün bu halini görüntüleme şansına sahip olabildim...
Tek sorun, önce motor yardımıyla yol aldığımız gölde, mevcut durgun suyun bozulmasına neden olduğum için bu bölgelerde kürek yardımıyla ve kürekden sonra da suyun tekrar durulmasını beklemekdi...
