"I sho got the blues this mornin'"
Yep, it's Monday again and it's time for many of us to go back to work. I don't know about you, but after a weekend of traveling around and enjoying myself, I just have a hard time getting motivated on Monday morning. In fact, I even overslept by an hour and a half, so now I'm running late for work...
Reminds me of that song by Albert King - "Call My Job" - tell my boss I won't be in... I've had too much weekend.
Anyway, here's one from the archives - this guy is Eric Sardinas, he is one of the new breed of blues artists. I got this shot at the Big Muddy Blues Festival at Laclede's Landing in St. Louis on September 1 of 2001. He was the first band of the day and when he came out I thought "Holy crap, a Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) wanna-be." because of all the scarves and tattoos. After a little while, though, he started to rev up and showed that he is actually a very engaging performer. He has a lot of energy, I ended up buying his (first) CD and chatting with him for a while after his show. He autographed my book and the CD and was happy to talk with all the folks at the festival. I really enjoyed his music and talking to him, so he has a fan for life. I've gotten all his albums since.
This was shot with an old 2 megapixel Olympus 490z, a decent point and shoot, and my second digital camera ever. It took a pretty good snapshot, sometimes it had a problem with proper exposure - this time it did pretty well. The sun was setting, Eric was playing slide guitar (well, dobro) with a beer bottle and as the music hit a crescendo he threw back his head and blew beer up into the sky like a volcano.
I did do some leveling in the post process, also some noise reduction and sharpening after I re-sized it.
I have another image of that performance on TL - CLICK HERE to take a look at it. The link will open in another window or tab, depending upon how you have configured your browser.
Hope you all like it and are able to work through your blues this Monday morning!

Hi Reed,
your photos are always surprising, refreshing and a real pleasure to look at! This is also a proof that you don´t need a fancy camera to take a great photo - hey, confess, you´re a pro, aren´t you? ;-)
Regards,
Johanes

Hi Reed,
I agree that this is one of your best shots. Very OTT, very American too...this looks loud! Good PP job. I'll check out the music later, never heard of this guy.

Wow! What a decisive moment. Or did this fella regularly take gulps of beer and shoot them into the air? Anyways, you had a great eye here and the image is beautiful. Well done, I like it alot, Lisa.

Hi Reed,
What a waste of good beer.
Dramatic capture, made all the better with that great looking light. This is a great moment, the action, the body language, the blue hour sky and what about that fantastic steel guitar.....brilliant. Yep, sure is one of your best.

Peter

Strong stuff, Reed.
Allow me to use it in my next music clip on uTube ( with the full credits going to you).
Love this music in the streets' stuff tremendously and this one has a nice chunk of extraordinary dynamism in there.
His skin and that fountain of beer ( what a waste :-))) from his mouth...!
Sweat and blood, man...
thx, bro

That doesn't say much for Budweiser!
It's true though, it's not about the camera - it's about the moment - and capturing it - which you have done - brilliantly! What a fantastic shot!
