Photographer’s Note
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua galerita) in Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney.
Info from Wikipedia:
Typically these birds will weigh around 800 grams. In most cases, male birds can be distinguished from females with their almost black eyes, whereas the female has a more red/brown coloured eye. Their distinctive raucous call can be very loud; it is meant to travel through the forest environments in which they live, including tropical and subtropical rainforests. These birds are naturally curious creatures, as well as very intelligent. They have adapted very well to European settlement in Australia and live in many urban areas.

What to call this, a portrait? If so, a good one. Specially the background has made the added attraction. A very good shot, Kari.

Hi Kari, These are really striking looking birds and all the more so when you hear the noise they make. Good timing on this shot, showing him (?) with the crest on display. Texture of the BG works well too. Cheers, Steve

Hi Kari
Lucky you to get a cocky so well placed posing for you. He stands out well against the bark of the tree.

I hated the ones living around the oil workers camp in Moomba, SA. They were, and probably still are, by the hundreds waking up everybody at sunrise.
The picture is excellent with very good colours and sharpness. Well done.

Hi Kari, this is a very good wildlife shot - with an interesting Note attached. But what makes it more than a wildlife shot for me is the beautiful texture you've brought out in the tree's trunk behind, contrasting so beautifully with the cockatoo's smooth white feathers. Great job, Lisa.

Hi Kari,
Perfect title for this little screecher, they can sure raise a noise as well as eat anything in sight, at the moment they are chewing their way through the roof on my house.
Superb detail of the bird and the wonderful textures in the tree.
Cheers

Hallo Kari! The title deserves extra points :))) they can wake you up, especially in a tent. Really cute little bird but you can see that it likes to make funny stuff ... and a lot of noise. Very cute, very natural, you were lucky that it did not fly away. Happy evening, Barbara.

Hi Kari,
What fun to see one of these fellows again; and captured with such excellent detail and framing. I saw many of this birds around Australia but my little coolpix wasn't fast enough to capture them. I'm hoping you got a good shot of a galah as well.

Hello Kari, There is no better way to describe these birds than noisemakers except maybe for DESTRUCTIVE, I like they way you have captured this one with it's natural looking surroundings & his famous sulphur crest showing & open up. Nice one.

A very impressive crest, where the only color of the bird seems to have concentrated.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Hi Kari, Ideal composition with the wooden stump behind. The yellow crest is up and looks wonderful. I didn't know about the eye colours-very interesting. TFS. Murray.
