Photographer’s Note
Sultan Ahmet Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque, is one the main attractions of Istanbul. It lies opposite to St. Sophia, in part to compete with the latter. Construction initiated in 1604 and the design was developed by Sedefhar Mehmet Agha, assistant of the famous architect Sinan.
The glowy interior was partly supported by the genious of structure work allowing for the large dome and sub-domes. The innovation in structure and grand architecture is the culmination of the fusion of styles and innovation during that period of the Ottoman empire.
A must visit for anyone who sets to Istanbul.
