People worship and pray to Allah every Friday in these streets of downtown Cairo. I was told that a particular hotel had a nice viewpoint of the scene, so on Thursday I went to the hotel to check it out. The owner said I could come back tomorrow and use the balcony from a dorm room which overlooks this fruit market, very generously. So, I waited an hour at midday until the moment when everyone prays in unison on green mats laid out especially, and enjoyed the powerful moment while capturing it.

Absolutely astonishing photograph, David. There is an element that makes it evocative of a herd of sheep. The orderly manner in which the worshipers are line up, next to the well ordered displays of fruits and vegetables — the colors, perspective and resolution all collaborate to make this a memorable photograph. Well done.

the color combination is wonderful. the colorful stalls and people's clothes and the gray buildings...well done!

Nothing beats a well executed plan and a location survey to go with it.
You were justly rewarded with this marvelous capture.
Brilliant shot, great job.

Very interesting and colorful scene. I think a closer view would have been better. I imagine a picture where only praying people on the left, and the fruit boxes on the right are visible, without the buildings which, in my opinion, are a bit disturbing.
Of course they are necessary if the goal is to show the whole environment.

Ciao David, mi piace molto questa scena di vita quotidiana, è strano per noi occidentali vedere con un venerdì di preghiera trasformi le strade cittadine in veri luoghi per il culto, interrompendo lo svolgere delle attività quotidiane.

Good note and good location... You have been well informed about this balcony....
Picture is well done with full of mixed colors!!!
On one side, colors from fruits well arranged and on the other side colors from shirts dispatched everywhere.

The Recitals from the PA systems of the mosques prior to the prayer on Friday talks about shutting up shop for the prayer and your picture seems to be the embodiment of that.

The point of view made this photo. It is strange to see in this way the prayers with a strong graphical rendering thanks to the green carpet, the market shops and the back of the prayers. Very original,

Quite a different photo from you. Full of colour - with the colourful green mats providing a striking background for the worshippers. An interesting location amongst the colourful fruit and vegetable stalls. The neutral coloured buildings to the left do demonstrate the height from which you took this photo - however I feel that perhaps this area could have been cropped out and then the focus could be more on the parallel lines of the colourful market, the worshippers and their footwear. Just a thought and tfs, Marlene

Good to see you back, I see you just can't settle down, why would you, if I had half the chance I would be off on the road again. Its a magical shot you have captured here, the colours are superb and this poignant religious capture is first rate. The blends in this I love.. well done and good to see you back once again.

Wow, so I have never seen that before, normally we only see shots of people praying in the mosque or indoors, and here they are all outside in this narrow street next to the vegetable market. What a great vantage point you had to capture this amazing scene. I love the colours all in rows with people and fruit & vegetables. Great!
