Photographer’s Note
This is an infrared image of monument valley taken near sunset and converted to black and white. I think, on this trip, the drive through the park was probably one of the highlights. For $5, you get to drive on dirt and gravel roads (they told us it takes a little over an hour, we were there for 3.5) through some amazing formations. There are people at the beginning trying to insist you take their tour - just bypass them and do it on your own - the tours won't stop when you want, though they do provide background info and navajo perspective. Sunset is the absolute best time - the rocks glow! There are view points all along the road. After Artist's Point, there is a large pull off. If you are there early, there will be a man selling jewelry. The road goes on behind him about .5 mile - take this road to the end. You may also hike around a butte at the end for an amazing view. Another road that people might miss, earlier in the tour, is John Ford's point. It is at the stables, but veer to your right and keep going.

very good, courtenay,
I especially like the mid and upper third, as they merge well with each other.
How did you take the infrared image, do you need a special camera for that?

Hi Courtenay,
Interesting perspective with nice deep depth of field. Very good composition and use of "infrared".
Thanks!

Hi Courtenay
These famous formations are so spectacular. As the colour photos I've seen show that they're a pretty red, is there any particular reason why you converted this photo to B&W ? Thanks for the informative note and I'm looking forward to seeing the sunset there this summer.
Regards
Nikki
