Photographer’s Note

This is the Moki Dugway in Southern Utah. Its a twisting gravel road running along the edge of a mesa to take cars to the valley below (Mexican Hat, Utah). Very beautiful, but for someone like me - afraid of edges (not heights) its a rather long trip up the mountain, especially at the proscribed speed of 5-15 MPH. I think this road cured my fear, as later in the trip, I had no problem with the hogsback on Rte. 12.

This picture summarizes most of the features of Western USA. The road, the typical landscape, the huge empty spaces, the desert, the sunshine...

Hello Courtenay! I fully agree with Stefano, this is how I personally felt Utah and you bring it out the way I never could I guess. Just wonderful. Oh yes, these edges, I am not used to that either as most of them are not secured ... I had my problems too :))) What can I say, I hang here over my screen ... I love this road that winds its way up, it gives back the dimension out here, we feel the size. Very very good ... happy weekend ... Barbara.

Very impressive place, i can imagine your feeling about the road. The inclusion of the car give us a good scale sense. Personaly i think is a bit to crispy look. Did you use sharpness at the PP?

Hi again Courtenay,

I wanted to comment on this photograph yesterday, but got side-tracked and never got back to you. Anyway, I really like this shot. The road is well depicted and I can see that I would probably have a tough time getting my wife to ride with me, no matter what the vistas on the way - she'd look at the pictures later! It is well exposed and composed, with a nice, short to-the-point note for amplification. Enjoyable!
