History of San Francisco
The earliest archaeological evidence of inhabitation of the territory of the city of San Francisco dates to 3000 BC.[13] People of the Ohlone language group occupied Northern California from at least the 6th century.[14] Though their territory had been claimed by Spain since the early 16th century, they would have relatively little contact with Europeans until 1769, when, as part of an effort to colonize Alta California, an exploration party led by Don Gaspar de Portola learned of the existence of San Francisco Bay.[15] Seven years later, in 1776, an expedition led by Juan Bautista de Anza selected the site for the Presidio of San Francisco, which Jose Joaquin Moraga would soon found. Later the same year, the Franciscan missionary Francisco Palou founded the Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores).[16] The Yelamu tribal group of the Ohlone, who had had several villages in the area, were brought to live and work at the mission and be converted into the Catholic faith.
Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores)Upon independence from Spain in 1821, the area became part of Mexico. Under Mexican rule, the mission system gradually ended and its lands began to be privatized. In 1835, Englishman William Richardson erected the first independent homestead,[17] near a boat anchorage around what is today Portsmouth Square. Together with Alcalde Francisco de Haro, he laid out a street plan for the expanded settlement, and the town, named Yerba Buena, began to attract American settlers. Commodore John D. Sloat claimed California for the United States on July 7, 1846, during the Mexican-American War, and Captain John B. Montgomery arrived to claim Yerba Buena two days later. Yerba Buena was renamed San Francisco the next year,[18] and Mexico officially ceded the territory to the United States at the end of the war. Despite its attractive location as a port and naval base, San Francisco was still a small settlement with inhospitable geography

Üstadım sana şu an Ankara dan günaydın diyorum, yarın akşam üstüde Mardin den merhaba diyeceğim.. cuma gününe kadar Mardin deyim....
Şimdii bu fotoğraf hakkaten enfes... ama soru şu; bu iş yeni aldığın cihaz sayesindemi oldu yoksa senin sayendemi ??...
renkler,netlik, açı, kadraj, kompozisyon hepsi acaip güzel.. gökyüzünün koyu bölümü, açık bölümü, altında modern binalar, önde detayları muhteşem evler ve en önde yeşillik alan... hepsi enfes bir denge ve ahenk hatta düzen içinde yer almışlar ki bu harika olmuş... buna göre; kadrajı, açıyı, dengeyi, kompozisyonu çok başarılı bir şekilde yaratan sensin.. cihaza kalan netlik ve renkler sadece.. yani bukadar renk ve netliğin alasını bendeki Nikon Coolpix avuç içi zımbırtısı bile sağladığına göre demekki senin cihazın bu enfes fotoğrafa bir katkısı olduğu söylenemez... Bundan da sonuç olarak; elindeki o cihaza rağmen böyle bir eser yaratabiliyorsan sen hakkaten usta bir üstadsın ;))
Resme dönüp dönüp bi daha bakıyorum.. öndeki evler muhteşem tam benlik... çok beğendim üstad... eline sağlık... yarın Mardin de çok çalışmam lazım ;))

Sade dingin ve sıradan gibi gözükse de, burada en büyük mesaj, ön plandaki geleneksel mimari ile arkadaki modern yapıtların tezadı.
Yaşım gereğimidir nedir bilmem ama, ben o arkadaki insan siloları yerine, ön plandaki, merdivenleri inip çıktıkça gıcırdayan evlerde yaşamayı tercih ederdim.

Ayrica yazdigim gibi ne kadar mutlu oldum, TE'de yine sizi görünce. Bu sahane fotografi tarihine bakiyorum, siz galiba ABD'ye geldiniz — fakat simdi ordamisiniz, yoksa gelip gittinizmi?

Regarding your note, it is highly informative. A factoid to add to it, around a few years ago they found anchor stones used by the Chinese about AD 1000 of the shore of San Francisco. This city is, I am convinced, the most beautiful city in the US. I was a post-doc at UC-Berkeley many years ago. This is a great shot with the moisture laden cloud hanging above the city.

il fallait les dénicher ces maisons, elles ne cadrent pas vraiment avec l'arrière plan mais sont sans doute ce qu'il y a de plus beau dans cette scène.

Very nice picture, with several interesting elements: the nice row of wooden houses in the foreground, the backgound with the modern buildings and skyscrapers contrasting with the older style of the small house, and finally the dark grey sky which makes like cover on top of the city. Excellent construction of the framing, and a very well chosen moment.

This is one of those classic and trademark San Francisco shot and you did very well! I was in the Philippines when you were in the Bay Area. I live 40 minutes away from this place on the east bay, which means you have to cross the San Francisco Bay Bridge to get to our place. It is just unfortunate that the sun hid from you on this shot.

I really like this photo compared to the similar one you posted on 12-4-09! That one put the accent on the skyline, wheras this one puts the accent on the comparison between the traditional wooden houses and the modern buildings at the back!
Looking at the sky, the photo must have been taken within minutes of each other, but with a different POV.

This is a superbly rendered version of a classic San Francisco scene. (Almost as famous as the Golden Gate Bridge!)

The sky presents some remarkable opportunities and challenges for you. The dark cloud adds considerable drama to the image, but limits available light. Nevertheless, you have excellent clarity and depth of field throughout the image. The colors are also excellent, from the green grass to the small patch of flowers on the left to the beautifully painted "Victorian ladies."

I have stood in the park on the hill over the road from these houses - but never before have I seen these houses on TE. What makes this photo attractive and unique is the way the dark cloud is hovering just above the distant skyscrapers. The cloud has almost taken on the shape of these buildings.
