Sometimes, you don't have to go far to see some of the most famous artwork in the world. Until the end of March China's famous Terracotta Warriors are on display in a fairly small city in Belgium: Maaseik.

The Terracotta Army was made for the Mausoleum of the first emperor of China and was found by coincidence in 1974 by a farmer. Over 1,000 terracotta warriors have been unearthed so far, and the total is estimated to over 7,000. The statues measure on average 1,86 m and weigh around 300 kg.

The exhibition in Maaseik hosts 14 of these statues.

An original shot of these statues, in a new surrounding. I like how you composed this shot, and the other statue in the dark really makes the lit up one stand out.

Dag Gerd,

Hosting this absolute world class exhibition in little Maaseik is really a tour de force. We went to see it a couple of weeks ago and were really impressed. We were in Xi'an too, where you get a better sense of the enormity of the graves, but in Maaseik you can get REALLY, REALLY close to the statues and that is just unique! The exhibition is a MUST for anyone even vaguely interested in China (and makes a good excuse to go and discover Limburg!).
