Photographer’s Note

Silent evidences of a glorious past, allready passed away.
This block and corner does not exist any more. It was a narrow street close to the Byzantine city walls of İstanbul, mainly occupied by gypsies.
All those old wooden houses are been now demolished and gave place to wider streets and parks.
Neither the tire repair shops, nor the declined street plate exists any more.

Şanlı şöhretli bir geçmişin dilsiz şahitleri.
Bu ahşap ev bloğu, İstanbul surları civarında Sulukuleden. Artık yerlerind yeller esiyor. Bir zamanlar cıvıl cıvıl seslerin geldiği bu evlerin yerine yollar açıldı, parklar yapıldı. Ama onlar bu evlerin yerini dolduramıyor ki ! Ne or lastik tamircileri ne de civisinden kopmuş sokak levhası var artık.

Bu kare'yi de siyah beyaz bir baskıdan taradım.

Good morning mr.Mesut

An great document of how it was in 1993...I really like this,the grain,the wooden house from the corner,the contrast...the entire scene.
Just wish the person would more placed in the frame.
And to see more of these b&w old photos everyday.

Splendid. Maybe to tight frame, but B&W mode works here very well with strong contrasts.

wow, très bonne qualité de scan Mesut, les tons de gris sont superbes, je regrette que le toit soit coupé? les vieilles maisons sont toujours attachantes!

I know how it feels, dear Mesut.

When you no longer recognize the place you grew up because things change all the time and new "corners" are created. A gradual visual allienation that we are all threatened by. I will just repeat what my late father used to say: God put the eyes in the front of the head to look forward!

Hi Mesut,
Although only 15 years, this photo gives an impression of much older days. The perspective shows the interesting architecture here in a very good way. Good scan.

Uzun zamandır TE'ye bakamıyordum, şimdi açtığımda yine sizin eski taramalarla karşılaşmak çok güzel.
Mesut Bey, geçen gün rüyamda sizi gördüm, yine kalabalık bir ekip toplanmış fotoğraf çekiyorduk. Belki bu bir işarettir, görüşme zamanı gelmiştir :)

Hallo Mesut!
Das hat vor 16 Jahren noch so gestanden - kaum zu glauben. Aber irgendwie haben diese alten Häuser noch so etwas wie Charakter - was die meisten Neubauten kaum für sich beanspruchen könne. Wieder ein interessanter und stimmungsvoller Beitrag...
Grüße aus dem noch sonnigen aber kalten Westfalen! Schnee ist angekündigt...

Excellent photography here! Medium format has produced a wealth of detail and the range of tonality is wide. Love the character of this neighborhood, which are becoming rarer by the day. Thanks for posting this superb photograph.

this one's like a monument to the old architecture of turkish small towns. burning and impozing the way you have captured it (with the whited out sky and superb clarity in the shadows). even though i know you'r focus was on the 'corner', i think, i would have tried it a bit less centered though, accentuating either the left or right fasade.

This is beautiful postprocessing, Mesut. There are so many textures, and every one is brought out in detail. It's nicely composed with the off-center corner of the building. There's white sky but it doesn't matter for this kind of shot. It's particularly nice to have this kind of shot when the place no longer exists--it's a fitting tribute. Regards, Ken.
