Photographer’s Note

Midnight February 17 and it's mighty cold outside after the last cold spell. I was browsing thru my records when I came acroos this beauty that filled my eyes with light and warmth. Taken last June on Serifos, one of the best summer destinations in the Kyklades Archipelago.

Hello Argiris,
With a windmill on the FG, two churches on top of the hill and between both the typical white houses with blue doors, this is a very beautiful presentation of a Cycladic island. The contrast with the brown soil is big and tells us it is a summer picture, something to dream of for us in northern countries, specially this wintertime.

Beautiful textures created by authentic Greek architecture style while blue frames, doors, domes are creating enviably splendid contrasts. There is also another contrasts between white and yellow bald ridges that this a typical differences all over Aegean shores while unique Aegean water color adding life and style there. Hello Argiris, that's wonderful with white-washed houses with blue doors and windows. The inclusion of the windmill in the foreground richens your composition. The only thing missing in the Aegean islands is the green vegetation.

hello Argiris,
the strong diagonal of the white houses is very nice, it feels as if a white and blue ribbon is tied around the hill. placing the windmill in the foreground was a good decision, it "anchors" the whole scene. excellent work, I like it a lot.

Hello Argiris,

you bring us the warm colours of summer in our cold winter days! This is Kyklades as I have known them, with the caracteristic architecture and a solar atmosphere. I find this picture very alive, shinig with warm light and intense colors.
A very good sense of depth gives the sesation to be on the spot.

A very well chosen pov for a perfect composition: I really like the way you started with the windmills in the very foreground and went up the hill with all the other buildings, ending it up with the small church in the background! Sharpness is excellent! Exposure is perfectly correct! Colors are naturally beautiful! Too bad you couldn't avoid the cars, but that's everyone's problems nowadays... they're everywhere and... oh well, they're necessary, anyways! I really like this one! TFS - Congratulations!

Nice shot, although a lot of houses can be seen here and in my opinion it was better to see more sky and ground to frame this beautiful village, I like this wonderful resident area in a lovely view and special slope which is shown here.

Να ήταν λέει 100 χρόνια πριν, να μην υπήρχαν αυτοκίνητα, φαντάσου πως θα ήταν το σκηνικό που αποθανάτισες! Φαντάσου τους κατοίκους να περιδιαβαίνουν τα σοκάκια με τα πόδια ή με γαϊδουράκια. Πιστεύω να έχεις δει φωτογραφίες του Μπουασσονά! Πανίσχυρη η φωτογραφία ως μέσο πολιτισμού και όχι μόνο. Δεν είμαστε του ίδιου βεληνεκούς αλλά είμαστε λάτρεις του ωραίου και του πολύτιμου.
Διαχειρίστηκες άψογα το φως, διάλεξες καλή μεριά για λήψη και διαμόρφωσες καλό κάδρο!

Γεια σου Αργυρη.Απιθανο σημειο ληψης και πληρης συνθεση,περιλαμβανεις στην φωτο σου ολη την χωρα με τα χαρακτηριστικα της κτισματα ακροβολισμενα με μεγαλη μαεστρια.Αν και η ωρα ,ο φωτισμος και το ολολευκο θεμα δεν βοηθουσαν, το εμπειρο ματι σου τα καταφερε απιστευτα καλα.

I can feel the warmth of the sun in this photo. Wow, what a gorgeous POV and brilliant composition. The retaining wall in the foreground really gives a sense of space. I'm wondering how you achieved such good lighting on a bright day with the sun reflecting off white buildings? Amazing!
