Castle Stapelen Photo

Photographer’s Note

Boxtel is a small town, but its big church shows that it was an important place once. Just outside the town you'll find a park in which lies this castle, Kasteel Stapelen. The entire complex was given a new look in early neo-Gothic style in 1857-1858, to fit the then popular ideas about what a medieval castle should look like. Towers were heightened, the facade of the chapel was renewed and countless battlements were added to places where there never had been any. Since 1915 the castle has been used as a monastery. In the Middle Ages a miracle occurred here which is still celebrated each year with a big procession.

Yes it was Saturday very nice winter weather. I had to go for some photo's. This is one of them I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Jaap,

Great shot, with a really nice reflection, great sharpness, colours and depth. I particularly like the tree on the left hand side, for me it really adds to the overall composition.

Goedenavond Jaap,

Ik ben al niet de eerste maar dan toch bij de eerste.
Het is een schitterende foto Jaap, twee zaken in deze compositie zijn zo mooi, een: de boom neemt u mee en de volledige weerspeigeling van het kasteel, dit is een kanjer.
De grijze tinten maken alles nog mooier.
Goed wek geleverd, bedankt.

You find so many places in your country with castles and water for some stunning reflections. The winter light is gentle and is providing some pleasant contrasts. As well as the beautiful castle and its reflection, the leaning tree with its own reflection plays an important role in the whole image.

I particularly light the curve composition, with the trunk making something like a guideline on the walls of the castle (real and reflected ones).
Superb warm light and sharpness.

I prefer this one to the latest you have posted, the pov is best to get full reflection and I find this sunken foreground tree is a bonus here.

as in all your photos, the luminous light is magic, and mirror-perfect reflections add to the feeling of fairy-tale place. the tree trunk on the left works really well to lead the eye towards the castle, and the edge of the soil adds a nice natural frame. excellent work, my compliments.

Now THAT is an instant favorite ;-))
The soft colors are like a masterwork pastel, the composition with the tree & castle is exquisitely detailed, the reflection sublime, the exposure a bit un-contrasted (cloudy sky) but it blends itself into another layer of details & softer colors bringin an impression of peace & quiet...
Did I mention I love it? :D
