Photographer’s Note
Last summer (July 2008) we went for a trip to Europe and spent about 12 days in the area Interlaken in Switzerland. On this day we took the train up to Schynige Platte where you can enjoy beautiful views and some great hikes.
This photo was taken from the Schynige Platte train on the way to the top. I added a bit of contrast and saturation for this photo. I hope you like it!
*Some information about Schynige Platte: The Schynige Platte Railway or Schynige Platte Bahn is a mountain railway in the Bernese Oberland area of Switzerland, which connects the town of Wilderswil, near Interlaken with the famous wildflower gardens of the Schynige Platte.
An impressively varied natural landscape unfolds on your journey: fertile forests, Alpine pastures and breathtaking views of the Bernese Oberland with Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Then a sudden change of scenery to the almost overwhelming view of the glistening giants of the Bernese Oberland, directly opposite, the imposing peaks of the Eiger (3,970m / 13,025 ft), Mönch (4,107m / 13,474 feet)and the Jungfrau (4,158m / 13,642 ft).
The Schynige Platte is a Swiss mountain region near where the Schynige Platte Railway ends (at 1970m/6,811 ft above sea level. In good weather conditions the summit offers spectacular views to many surrounding mountains, including Jungfrau, Eiger, Silberhorn and others, as well as Lake Thun (Thunersee) and Lake Brienz (Brienzersee). An Alpine Garden (Alpen Garten) is located near the summit where various alpine plants can be found together with labels, indicating their Latin names (many of these plants also grow in the area as wildflowers). At the top of the railway station there is a hotel and mountain restaurant.
Schynige Platte is a start point for many hikes, especially the popular hiking trials to Faulhorn or First.
Thanks for looking!
Ann

Hello Ann,
Do I see here an old member popping up under a new name ?
Anyway what first attracted me is the place name, and the good composition having this powerful barn foreground, even despite this wide aperture you have shaprness on all plans, just a bit of noise in the sky.
Have a nice day JY

Hello Ann,
Very nice "Swiss alps typical" landscape!
The light is very well managed between the foreground and the snowy mountain.
Greetings.

Great photo. I was looking through the gallery and I saw this photo and I remember hiking past this place about 2 years ago. I always wondered what the view was like from this place because the day I climbed it was raining and too foggy to see. Thanks for sharing.

Bonjour Ann,
Le contraste entre les alpages et la haute montagne est superbe.
La composition avec ce premier plan floral est très réussie.
Une image pleine de fraicheur !

Hello Ann,
The main peaks of the Jungfrau are well seen here. Nice composition with the foreground barn and green forest in the middle. I think I can also see the Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen Valley here. It looks like you had a nice weather day. Schynige Platte was the starting point for my hike to Grindelwald (original plan was to First but decided to walk down instead). Regards. Latiff.

What a wonderful scenery, I just love these high mountain places in summer, with green fields surrounded by snowy peaks. Amazing place! Very good capture with natural colors and I like the framing too.
Have a nice weekend!

Dag Anneke,
Luc.

Hi Ann
I like the colourful fg carpet of wildflowers. The rustic cabin makes a fine focal point. A superb alpine view, with excellent sharpness. Tfs!

Ann,
This is like a post card from Switzerland, that is if people still send post card. A perfect composition, you really couldn't ask for more, the majestic snow capped mountain range the lush green forest of pines and valley, the summer barn, the green field with wildflowers in full bloom. Fantastic really. The only minor and I mean little bit maybe too much sharpening or noise, I'm not sure, or it could be too much contrast. Anyway, you're good, and I'm a little more picky and have high expectation with the good photographers. Thanks

Hello Ann,
A perfect composition, with excelent use of the two diagonals to lead the eye back and forth through fore, middle and background; very good use of the thirds. Colors are very vivid and variegated, and the atmosphere was particularly clear, but I tend to agree with Didier that the light was not optimal. Maybe it’s just a matter of dynamic range of the sensor and bracketing exposures would do.

Victor

Hello Ann!
Another terrific mountain scenery! This is more bucolic and I really like it so! The composition is spectacular with all the interesting elements so well placed in the frame! Sharpness is outstanding allowing me see even tiny details in the image! Brightness is also very good! I really love this one!
TFS - Congratulations!
