Photographer’s Note

A weekend at the Devil's mountain.
We went up along a 8 km. trail, snowshooing, to reach the west side refuge, shown here, where we will stay for the night, only to come back on the day after.

Why the Devil's mountain ?
An Algonguine legend has it that the mountain was inhabited by a monster ( Witikow ),a man-eating giant.
He was feared and he was used to scare the children.
Another version says that Witikow is watching over the territory and will be mad only against those who destroyed nature.

I will put two extras in the workshop.

Une fin de semaine à la montagne du Diable, une montée de 8 km. en raquette pour atteindre le refuge du versant ouest que je vous présente, et où nous passerons la nuit.Retour le lendemain,hélas!

Voici deux légendes...

Une certaine légende veut que la montagne soit hantée par le Windigo (Witikow), monstre de la mythologie algonquine, géant anthropophage, démoniaque possédé du mauvais esprit. On le craignait et on en menaçait les enfants, d'où sa dénomination de montagne " du Diable " ; traduction du " mauvais esprit Windigo " dans la langue des blancs.

Une autre légende raconte que Windigo est un bon Diable qui veille sur le territoire afin de le protéger. Il se fait quelques fois menaçant mais seulement envers ceux qui détruisent la nature.

Hi Charles,

If there was ever a picture who draws the attention from the thumbnail on a certain colour than this one wins that contest ;-)
Man that blue is really shining and leave all other pictures out of the page, glad i'm not posting on the same page....LOL.
How blue is that sky, did you pushed it even further, or is this real and the effect of the pola filter? Contrast with those trees is huge, almost surreal, but in the perspective view towards the house they look great, that's for sure.

a good composition and a good presentation of this your nice shot.
I like the boule diagonal of the trees, taking the eyes towards the little house.

Bonjour Charles,
on ne peut pas dire que le givre passe inaperçu.
Avec les teintes bleues, le froid est omni présent. Un contraste fabuleuxc avec ce ciel d'un bleu insolent.

Diable que c'est une belle photo, ça va avec le titre. Le bel éclairage met bien en valeur ce paysage de givre avec une excellente perspective. Merveilleux contraste entre les arbres et le superbes ciel bleu. Bonne composition et intéressante note.

Hi Charles, A beautiful winter photo & the light is excellent, I love the snow covered trees & the way they angle through the picture, & with the white blanket on the ground they all lead to the little shack on the hill, the blue framing works brilliantly with that gorgeous sky, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Salut cousin,
effectivement je vois ce que tu voulais dire, mais de mon cote ca va mieux 15 cms de poudre blanche cette nuit et ca continue :-)
La luminosite de l'hiver s'exprime pleinement sous se soleil, et la celebre "cabane au Canada" est bien mise en valeur.

This is a beautiful winter scene. The deep blue sky provides excellent contrast for the shot. The lighting and colors are great with sharpness and DOF. The off center placement of the house is great with the line of trees leading the eye to it.

Beautiful image, the blue is almost over bearing, but definitely grab attention. Great contrast, perhap maybe even too much. I like contrast but this is almost a bit too strong, that is just a matter of personal taste. I do like very much the combination. Well done.

Bonjour Charles.
C'est une montagne du diable bien belle que tu nous présentes-là.
Ça ressemble plutôt à un paradis avec des couleurs très pures et très belles. J'aime ces arbres couverts de givre qui amènent le regard sur le refuge.

Hi Charles,

Blue, blue, blue, amazing blue, glowing blue, clear blue, beautiful blue... And an heavenly light, and a charming log cabin... It's fabulous! Like Henk said, it overblows everything already in the thumbnail. The perspective effect of the row of frozen trees guiding the eye to the cabin is great.

The WS's are also beautiful and quite achieved, specially the "vue", which would give a great Christmas postcard.

Strange name for such a place, it certainly doesn't remind devil!
