Church of Papylos,Kanlidivane (Kanytelleis / Kanytelis), Erdemli, Mersin, Turkey

Church of Papylos is located on the northwestern edge of the sinkhole. The arch and the entrance of the underground storage room are seen in front of the three-arched narthex. It opens to the courtyard in the west surrounded by the atrium, through three arches supported by two columns each. We understand from a row of stone brackets on top of the western wall of the basilica that there was a wooden second floor above the narthex that did not survive until the present day.The epitaph on the lento indicates that a person by the name of Papylos has had the church built as a votive.

Papylos Kilisesi obruğun kuzeydoğu köşesindedir. Güney duvarları yıkılmıştır. Üç kemerli narteksin önündeki mahzenin kemeri ve ağzı görülmektedir. Batısı, avluya iki sütunlu üç kemerle açılmaktadır. Etrafında atrium vardır. Narteksin üzerinde ahşap bir kat olduğu, kilisenin batı duvarında sıralanan bir sıra taş konsoldan anlaşılmaktadır. Papylas adındaki bir kişinin bu bazilikayı, bir adak borcunu ödemek için yaptırdığı, letonun üzerindeki kitabede yazılıdır.

Hi Seref!
I remember this big hole and the ruin very well,I`ve been there in september.
Good quality and great contrast between green,brown and the nice sky.I like your composition with these goats.

Nice to have some life in the ruins ... even-though the goats look a bit organised.

o kadar çok tarihi zenginliklerimiz varki bazılarına böyle bakmıyoruz ne yazık ki.artık kaderine terk edilmiş bu yapı bakış açınızla hala gözalıcı görünüyor.keçiler sevimli bir görüntü katmışlar ama terkedilmişliği daha çok hissetiriyorlar sanki.

Seref, this is another history lesson and I love it. The shot is wonderful in that all the color and details are intact and the sheep/goats give it a human face almost, maybe make it alive. Anyway great capture.

Hi Seref, A nice photo of these ruins, it's a shame we are not able to see the old church in it's full splendour, however sometimes the ruins can be just as appealing & hold more of a story to them, there is great detail & texture & I love the goats in the foreground, they really finished the picture well, kind regards Wilson.
