Photographer’s Note

This photo was taken during a stay in Amlan. Although the people we met were kind and welcoming, the town was going through a hard time. Storms ravaged the shoreline of this fishing village, and many homes were destroyed.

While walking down the beach the churning water was lapping at doors and flooding huts, causing many people to be relocated to the local church.

This boat was up on stilts to keep it safe from the waves. I don't know the story behind the handprints, but it seemed significant since the beach clean-up was only possible through the generosity of many, many hands.
