Acapulco Divers Photo

Photographer’s Note

One of the tourist attractions of Acapulco is La Quebrada, from where the famous divers jump to the sea from a height of approximately 40 meters. The ritual repeats daily, if the climate conditions are favorable, for more than 60 years. After climbing the rocks, they pray quickly in front of a chapel on the top. After that, they wait for the right moment to jump, a little before the wave comes, so that the level of the water increases, having to consider also the time of the fall.

The jumps are made only by professionals, and nobody was injured during the picture session. Please don't try to do it at home!

Olá Alexandre,

tem um comercial no Discovery Channel que mostra esses malucos aí, saltando. O Lucas havia publicado uma parecida com essa. Fiquei com a impressão de que o cara fosse bater com a cabeça nessas rochas...mas se a tragédia tivesse acontecido, você teria nos informado :)) Muito bonito visual, a imagem é cheia de cores e está com uma definição muito boa. Belíssimo registro!

Não sei o que mais me impressiona: se a beleza do local ou a loucura dos mergulhadores. Acho que fico com a maravilhosa visão do céu e mar envolvendo as fantásticas rochas de Acapulco. As cores, anitidez e o congelamento estão perfeitos. Parabéns, abraço.

You captured a decisive moment exactly. Wow! He must be a brave man with this soul. Splendid contrasts between multi colored rocky cliffs and sea are just amazing while sea is showing its power with white foamed waves. Sky, adding visitors at top and cliffs are wonderful.

This is very dangerous jump, hope nobody didn't got any dangerous accident there. Is he jumping to behind of triangle rock? Because front part seems doesn't have enough water.

Olá Alexandre, verdadeiramente impressionante. Visto daqui parece que ele se vai estatelar todo na escarpa. Muito bem apanhado a posição e movimento dele e as cores estão fantásticas. Os outros dois à espera da sua vez são quase imperceptíveis confundido-se com a cor da rocha, mas também estão num 'poleiro' incrível. Parabéns.

eu conheço uma foto parecida com essa, povo doido esse mesmo, mas acho dificil mesmo fazer isso em casa, quem em dera ter um mar desses no meu quintal... E se tivesse os butecos que tem na região melhor ainda! Boas cores em sua foto, mais equilibradas e saturadas que a minha, gostei mais, mas a exposição ja prefiro aque usei, talvez uns -1 1/3EV, mas são tudo opções. Impressionante o nivelamento da linha do horizonte aqui!

Lol very nice note, however I hear some people die in this place tring to make a good dive but they live of the turism.

I like it you capture in perfect moment and I like the colors are very contrasting the blue of the sky with diferents colors of this rock and the deep blue of the occean.

Excellent shot! perfectly managed, at the right time! The colors are great too. I recognize the characteristic color of the ocean in Acapulco. I remember the strength of the waves too! I can see why this is a featured photo; great sharpness and color with impeccable timing in catching the diver at what appears to be an inevitably fatal fall. I have seen the place where they dive but no diving was occurring at the time; your photo shows the amazing spectacle well.
