'De Valk' in winter Photo

Photographer’s Note

A few weeks ago we had a real winter, which is rare in The Netherlands the last years. So we enjoyed it very much, both for skating and photography! A good reason to come back to TE ;-)
This was on my way to work, just before sunrise. The combination of fog and the sunrise that is about to begin (in the opposite direction) is responsible for the special light effect.
The name of the windmill, which was built in 1753, means 'The Falcon'. For more information about the windmill, see the note of the version in spring last year.

PP: levels slightly adjusted, cropped, resized and sharpened, all with GIMP. No PP regarding colours.

Hello Lia,

This is an unusual post of a windmill scene in Holland, but a most welcome one. I like the composition, the resolution and colors. Were the mauve highlights what you actually saw, or is it a function of a filter or post-processing? In any event, it is a very beautiful shot.

Hey Lia,

Love what you`ve shot here, or at least how you`ve post processed it. Probably both. The colors are alluring, the motive is also. All together posted in the perfect environment, with enough natural elements as well as the well positioned central one (the mill). A bit unusual, but in a good way.

I like the soft pastels of the pre-sunrise period and the ice adds an eerie feel to the scene. Excellent composition.
