Photographer’s Note
After driving over the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge from Mactan into Cebu from the airport our taxi stopped and these young boys surrounded our car.
They were all smiles as they asked for 50, 40, 20, 10 just one peso sir! Uplifting to see their joy, and upsetting to know that their future is grim.
I was too ashamed to openly take their picture, but i'm glad because I like the candid nature of the shot. I hope you like it.

What an interesting and unusual picture for sure. I like the faces of the boys and the scene of desperation that you have captured. It is always hard when faced with such situations for sure. Thanks for sharing this picture with us.

Hi Jeff, unfortunetly poverty is a problem in the Philippines. It always hurts seeing this... Nice shot and subject. This used to happen a lot around Manila but i think they cracked down on it in areas, but its still their. Its a different story when you go to the islands, poverty is still rampant though. Thanks again for sharing, strong story behind it! its not the most photographic shot sure, but it has a lot more to it. Indeed i would be ashamed to shoot a shot of them as well.
Regards,
Tom

Jeff, their future may be grim but they have beautiful smiles on their faces - one with a look of great astonishment. You tell a sad story but I do hope they have great lives. Tfs, Marlene
