Photographer’s Note

A young girl from Arjasa. Her father died many years ago and when her mother later remarried and decided to follow her new husband to his village, the girl was left alone with her old grandmother who no longer has the strength to work in the field and therefore has difficulties finding the money to pay for her schooling etc. She is so shy and preferes to stay at home because she feels embarrassed of being poor.

It broke my heart when the girl told me her story and unfortunately more children in the village suffer the same fate.

I'm thinking about what to do to help these families - but it's difficult to handle alone.

Dreaming of better days - a different life maybe?
Beautiful portrait - great light - and the look in her eyes adds to the story you tell of her life! And yes it is frustrating when you feel that there is so much you can do and yet you don't know how to do it!

Hi Tina,

A very nice off-center portrait with a great note! Yes, I know how heartbreaking these stories can be...
On the photograph itself; The skin tones are blown up too much. The facial lines are absorbed by the red tones. I have lived in Indonesia for a year and even with sun on their face, they are not that red ;-).

I really like the composition as usual Tina, but think it lacks somethign here, maybe over exposed.
