Here I post the photo of the ancient (year 1532) church in Vitoslavlitzi once again, but from another POV.
Church is suurounded by the wooden gallery, which was kind of the club for the village - people come here to discuss things and decide what to do if something urged the attention. Church was a center of the villages, and not only the faith one, but also the community center.
Lot of ancient pagan beleifs and rituals were still there, in the peasant's life, and for example, in some parts of Russia, marriages were celebrated in the church itself, with guests and priest staying overnight, eating and drinking and singing traditional songs which were not exactly very Christian.
Such things existed till XIX century, if not later on.
