Photographer's Note

An another typical landscape of Friesland, an area which I like very much, landscape of polders whith channels and fetile meadows.

Here one sees in the BG two elements characteristic of the Friesland's landscape.

A big farm in three parts, a farm of the type " kop-hals-romp" in dutch language, the house ( kop of head), the central part ( hals of neck) and ,channels, bif farms with red roof, cows and the large part with a red roof ( romp of trunck). On the left, a raising bridge wich allows the passage of the boats.

Friesland ( in Frisian Fryslân) is a province in the north of the Netherlands and part of the bigger region know as Frisia ( part in Netherlans, part in Germany). In Friesland, they speak two languages: the Dutch and also the Frisian (West Frisian).

This photo was taken in the area of the lakes of Friesland, around Workum (Warkum in Frisian).

I fully agree about this place, it has a green that is very much alive and you included a color of orange here to show the house in a most striking manner. The wide view effect is very well done. No, I would not mind staying in a farm like this and marry a local girl :) if life has a way of magic.

Hi Roger,
A first class example of how to crop an image in order to maximize the impact of the elements that make a view interesting.
The foreground green leading to the spot colour of the farm buildings contrasts perfectly, and the light on the raising bridge is glorious.
A wonderful image, thank you too for the note, most informative.

The varying shades of vibrant green to the foreground makes an excellent lead-in to the impressive Dutch architecture with the striking lines of the orange roof making a brilliant contrast with the blue sky.

Interesting image of a farm in this area. It looks so pristine and well-kept. Those type of bridges seem typical of teh area too. I think this comes within the dimensions where you are allowed to post a large version.

Bonsoir Roger,
Je ne connaissais pas cette appellation de Frise. Je ne sais si toutes les fermes hollandaises se ressemblent, mais celle-ci valait réellement une bonne photo pour nous faire connaître cette architecture rurale. Le premier plan est en harmonie colorée avec la ferme, par ailleurs très bien placée dans la composition. Excellente netteté de la photo. Bravo.

Le toit de cette superbe ferme me fait penser à un chapiteau de cirque !!! Petit concentré de Hollande sur cette photo, j'aime beaucoup le format utilisé et ces contrastes de couleurs. Je connais un peu la Hollande, ma soeur y habitant, mais pas cette région, à découvrir. Merci Roger.
