Photographer’s Note
The last few days has seen some major flooding on the Isle of Wight, and this gave me an idea!
Why not combine the floods with a sunrise?
So i thought of a few places that i knew would be flooded and the next morning i drove to the village in Adgestone (near Sandown).
I knew it would be a nightmare to try and walk to the spot that i wanted to go to because it was quite a distance, so i took my bike with me on my bike rack which made things a lot easier!
I had to ride through knee deep water for almost 5 minutes before i reached dry land, and then i had to climb over a gate and then into another area of flooded land and i had to wade through the water until i came to this field where i found a beautiful old tree reflecting in the flood water.
I then had to wait almost an hour before the light was good enough to take any photos!
What made it worse was that there was frost on the patches of grass so the water i was stood in must have been close to 0'c!
I used an ND8 Graduated filter

Jamie, a very well balanced image in every respect. The big leafless tree to the left and the void at the right gives a very good composition, but what certainly grasps the attention from the get go are the colors and the light. Truely a magical moment and all the effort you put into to be there at this moment got payed off.

Wow Peter you must be really happy with that shot. The picture is crisp and you managed the light really well to obtain such a clear refelction. The colours are beautiful too as is the framing. Regards from Lisa

Hello Jamie,
I'm admire your effort for getting extraordinary result. I'm entering to water if necessary but the water temperature here is almost more then 25° C every time.
I think your focal length is 20mm. Splendid effect of wide angle and your well selected point of view are just speechless. Stunning reflections of trees and sky on golden colored flood makes your frame an attractive one since its thumbnail size. Excellent clarity and sharpness, congratulations. Have a nice weekend.

Hello Jamie,
What an extraordinary image. The composition, perspective, colors and resolution all collaborate like the musical instruments of a great orchestra. You went to to a lot of trouble in implementing the shot, but the result is genuinely worth it. This is one of the finest images I've seen at Trekearth in weeks. Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Jamie,
Another excellent photo from you and making use of the newly created "ponds" was a good idea. The image seems to be well balanced and composed with equal "weighting" between reality and reflections. The early sunrise has created lovely colour on the water. Very well done.
Cheers Grant

Yeah! Sometimes we have to sacrifice to achieve as good shot as it is... But; without it - is our life would be full of this memorable escapes from the daily life? :)
