Photographer’s Note

Viewed from the bottom, this was a daunting climb on a late afternoon with no-one around. The switchback curves had to be judged just right unless you wanted to be held up when it felt like the best thing to do was keep moving. Only a rear-wheel-drive car has enough turning circle for them. The trail dates from when ores were trucked up in pre-war days. I thought 'If those old trucks could do it....'
