Anniversary. Wisdom of Surviving

(The text below as it appeared two years ago)

I've seen Him many times, walking slowly the same street of my city.
I never stopped in my run, always hasty and arrogant.
I never said 'Hi' to him or turn my head with greetings, or smile - immature, pretentious idiot with the flashy camera - me. The true photographer - me (?)

That day the street was deserted and - for some reason - I forgot all of my snobbery and arrogance, and I stopped, and I extended my hand with a camera towards him…
May I…?
He froze too, stayed motionlessly for second or two and then shy smile appeared on his face and his head nodded slightly.
After my first click, he started to walk again and when I clicked again - he stopped again.
'Oh, no…THANKS…I'm done…'
I thanked Him once more, with the biggest smile I could produce.
I've never saw Him again… Ever.

Today is my 1st. ANNIVERSARY of staying on TE.
I just wrapped up the posting of my Holocaust series, and I decided to gift myself with this very special, old photo of a man on the street of my city.
For, I own Him this honor.
For everything.

I dedicate this photo to all of those who vanished, because of our inability to prevent the evil.

Jest to z pewnoscia jedno z pieciu czy dziesieciu Twoich zdjec, ktore na mnie wywarlo niezapomniane wrazenie, takie..."na zawsze". Ja to zdjecie ogladalam paredziesiat razy, i zawsze dech mi zapieralo...Survivor, no doubt. Moc musi ten czlowiek miec ogromna, azeby tak zdjecie to mocno ciagle zylo...Ponadczasowe, pomimo tych paru samochodow, ponadwiekowe, ponadzyciowe...
Piekne.
Jestem raz jeszcze wpatrzona jako ta golebica...i oderwac wzroku nie moge.
Sciskam i dzieki za ten powrot. Grazyna.

Oczu duze raflektory. Świat taki szary. Jakie to prawdziwe. Tak właśnie pamiętam koniec lat 70 !

I remember this one indeed. The man looks straight from another era, yet present in another (more recent one). Poignant scene, in the context, he just keeps going while time passes him by, just like the black Volga (?) on the street.

To jedna z fotek, ktore najbardziej utkwily mi
w glowie z calego TE. Nawet opowiadalem komus o tym.
Wzruszajaca mocna historia tej fotki.
Gdzies tam w otchlani mysli jest tesknota,
zeby spotkac tego czlowieka i powiedziec mu
o wszystkim, o zalu, o tesknocie i bledach,
ktore chcialoby sie naprawic. Zycie tylko i az...

Nie dziwię się, że nigdy więcej go nie spotkałeś. Przecież to widać, że on odlatuje. Uchwyciłeś ten ostatni moment zanim gość w baraniej (?) czapce uniósł się nad ziemię i uleciał w nieodgadnioną przestrzeń (przeszłości i przyszłości wymieszanych w jednym kotle). Ilu to jeszcze niezwykłych zwykłych ludzi uwieczniłeś zanim odfrunęli ? Tort Ci się za to należy i z okazji rocznicy też. Pozdrowienia szczególne bo jubileuszowe - T.
Pięknie wykorzystana punktowa perspektywa by the way.

Nic się to zdjęcie nie zmieniło ;)) A sztuka przeżycia wciąż w cenie ;((
Ten czarny wartburg w pędzie - muszę go tu jednak wspomnieć, skoro poprzednio się nie odważyłam ;))

W sumie: cholernie pozytywny wydźwięk wciąż tu brzęczy.

It was one of my favorites, it still is (like many others that you have posted recently)... I feel overwhelmed by the quantity of excellent photographies that you have posted these last weeks and of course, they all deserve much more than they got sofar this time ; maybe, after some more months - or years ?

Anyway ! It's still the same emotion, the simplicity of the image and the straight message that strikes my heart immediately. Don't know in which part my previous critique is but equally moved this time. A masterpiece, bravo !
