Photographer’s Note
A blue heron enjoys the solitude of Christmas Day in a backwater pond at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge near Smythville, New Jersey. Many migratory species crowd this sanctuary during the early winter on their way to wintering grounds. The skyline of Atlantic City is just over the horizon providing an interesting contrast of nature vs. human wildness.
