Photographer’s Note
It's August 17th, 2008. We Indonesians who live in Japan were celebrating Indonesian Independence Day. A friend of mine prepared this tumpeng for the ceremony. Tumpeng is Javanese yellow rice pyramid, a kind of dish that is usually served in ceremonies such as anniversary and entering a new house. It consists of a cone of rice and toppings such as veggies, hard boiled eggs, fried tofu, fried tempe and fried chicken. It can be served for more than 10 people. The top part of the rice is usually given to the most respected person in that ceremony. Enjoy.
