Photographer’s Note
Eosin,
it can be the symbol of Pecs, Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010. The eosin glaze of the ceramics as the program of 2010 in Pecs is multicolored, shiny and astonishing.
Vilmos Zsolnay (1828 – 1900) was a Hungarian industrialist and entrepreneur. As the director of the Zsolnay porcelain manufacture he introduced new materials and inventions into the manufacture of pottery and ceramics and led the company to world-wide recognition.
Eosin process that was introduced in 1893. The process results in a light red iridescence of the first prepared hue, hence the term eosin (literally Greek eos means flush of dawn). Different eosin colors and processes were developed over time. The eosin-based iridescence became a favorite of Art Nouveau and Jugendstil artists. In this picture you can see a detail of the Zsolnay fountain of Pecs.
We hope the programs of 2010 can urge the dawn of Europe-wide recognition of this culturally irresistible interesting city.

Hi Jalab!
Hello to you from the other city that will share the title for 2010; Istanbul. I guess there is another city as well. There was a discussion among a few journalists ("ignoranti" I call them) as to how to name Pecs in Turkish. If only they knew some history!
I loved the focus on detail and the colour hues in your photo. The note was very informative. This was the first time I have heard of "eosin". TFS.
Best,
Petek
