Photographer’s Note
In the morning, especially in the Winter, it takes me a while to get going. But on December 8th, 2008 it was a different story...
As usual, the alarm clock rang at shortly past 6 am. I slowly dragged myself out of bed and into the shower. Yawning, I got myself dressed and dragged my feet slowly into the kitchen to make breakfast. It was still pitch black outside when I got the guys off to school at 7:15.
I was at my desk, planning my day, when at about 7:30, I realized that it was getting light. I looked out of my window and saw this. *Instantly* I was awake!!
Amazing, amazing, I thought and ran to get my camera. Now I've seen my share of sunrises, but this one was just beyond words - which is why I decided to capture it in a photograph! :-))
My boys saw it too, looking out of their school window, but they didn't have their cameras with them...
I didn't saturate this at all - this is exactly the way it looked, as seen from my balcony.
The mountains in the back are the Allgäuer Alpen. These Alps belong to Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg (both German States) and Vorarlberg and Tirol (Austrian States). There are over 170 peaks that can be seen from our house and the view (after living here for 18 years!)never ceases to amaze me.
By the way, the only reason I know that there are more than 170 peaks is because on a very clear day, my Dad once took the time to count them!
Hope you enjoy the shot and please feel free to give me tips on how to improve!
Take care,
Linda

Hallo Linda,

hi Linda,
impressive sunrise, no wonder you were running to get your camera :) and hood timing with the sun just behind the mountains, I'm sure in few minutes it was up and the scene was completely different.
I like a lot how you have composed the photo with the snow covered trees in the foreround creating a natural frame. perfect winter postcard :)

Hi Linda,
Ahh, this is Mom showin' 'em how it's done. Mark and Kris must be green with envy. It is so hard to watch beautiful weather from the window of an office or school room or from behind the wheel of a car. Wonderful sky unpretentiously presented. The slight reflection of the orange on the foreground snow is sublime.
Cheers!

Hello Linda,
Trying to impress me with such views? ;-)
Well you did, because this looks stunning. Not only that sky, but as a bonus the snow on the trees look just wonderful, like from a fairy tale. You live indeed in a wonderful area, much better than living here in this flat boring country.
Great shot Sistercosmo, you can be proud on it...
Have a nice weekend,

I do agree with you. Nothing better than a superb sunrise to get the day going. I go for a walk every morning at around 6am and at that time the sun is already quite high as, at the moment, the sun shows up soon after 4am.
This is a wonderful shot with a great composition and beautiful sky and colours. Well done.

Hurray! I've been waiting for a new post! And what a stunner! It's not just the gorgeous sky but the orange tint to the snow is simply stunning. How do you get any work done with this view from your study? I also loved reading your note and could just picture the scene. ;D

Hi, Linda.
Truly an incredible display, we never get to see anything of the kind here in Holland, not at dawn and not at sunset... And what a place to live, lucky you! Facing a landscape like this I doubt I'd ever get anything done AT ALL, except hiking & taking pictures all day long... Well, I reckon you just pinned down "le moment suprème" in the best possible fashion. Not only it's a gorgeous shot, I can also see it's a totally spontaneous one, and I love THAT! Way better than those wonderfully aseptic, glossy, pre-fab dawn & sunset shots that send me WOW! and deeply yawning at the same time... GREAT JOB, TFS! Have a nice weekend, I'll see ya soon.
Fulvio.

My dear Linda,
Your note is excellent, I like imagining you waking up slowly, and going on sleeping and suddenly starting to run to get your camera and to go outside to take some photos :-)
Indeed, that sky was wonderful, like a sea of fire! Very impressive!
Congratulations and thank you for your nice comments on my photos :-)
I am looking forward to seeing you again!
Hugs and xxx

You never know...
Klasse Komposition!
Liebe Grüße, man sieht sich ;o)

Hi, Linda!
Thank you for the nice words in your message. I am actually short of time lately and perhaps a little disappointed about my photos. This is not a reason for not visiting this site, seeing and admiring fotos of others. So off and on I come here and I will continue posting if I have enough time of fotos that please me.
---
I have had a look on your late pictures and I like your takes with a winterly mood. This one is great, with this lovely contrast beetween the "burning" sky and the frozen earth. The exposure is fine and allows too see a lot in the foreground with not too much (surely inevitable) overexposure with the sun. Amazing picture, which you say you have not manipulated and I believe it because it has a very natural appearance.

Hallo Linda,
Tolle Arbeit.
