Photographer’s Note
Honest truth, I have no idea what these "thingies" were. My guess is that they were baby caterpillars. At first I thought they were some kind of mold growing on a tree branch. But upon closer inspection, I noticed that they were all swaying back and forth, like they were all in some kind of trance. Not much PS work (as usual), just bumped up the saturation and auto leveled, I also ran the image through Neat Image to eliminate the noise. Maybe someone else can give me a clue as to what in the world they are?

Hi, John, I don't know what it is, but I like the contrast between this "thingies" and the unsharp background. It's so fascinating, you can stare to it for a few minutes, searching for what these things are. And that is just the purpose I think. Well done!

Dial 911 ! Call the police, the army, the national guard !
You're being invaded ! :-)
I don't know either, had a similar experience when I heard catterpillars munch away a tree from a distance of fifty yards !
Remarcable picture, though it could be sharper
