Photographer’s Note

Walking on the walls of Óbidos, this sequence of roofs ending up on Saint Mary’s Church, attracted my attention and remind me right way Led Zeppellin’s Stairway to Heaven

Church of Saint Mary
True masterpiece, this temple is one of the more extraordinarily beautiful of the West and of Portugal. It is supposed what will remount at the times of the Muslim occupation, having been rebuilt in the "Renaissance" period.

Of this monument, says José Saramago: " The Saint's Mary Church is, all links, a preciousness. is it immediately in the general proportion of the front, in the delicate doorway, in the robust and sober tower equipped with bells. And return it being there inside in the magnificent decorations of the ceiling, it celebrates of the eyes that are not tired of going through volutes, medallions and any more elements, where enigmatic and not much canonical figures are not lacking; is it also in the tomb of the "Alcaide mor" of Óbidos and of his woman, work attributed to Nicolas of Chanterenne and what is undoubtedly of the most beautiful of which the rebirth produced; is it equally for the paintings of Josefa de Ayala [Josefa d'Óbidos] (…) ”

Igreja de Santa Maria

Verdadeira obra-prima, este templo é dos mais extraordinariamente belos do Oeste e de Portugal. Supõe-se que remontará aos tempos da ocupação muçulmana, tendo sido reedificado no período renascentista.

Deste monumento, diz José Saramago: “A Igreja de Santa Maria é, toda ela, uma preciosidade. É-o imediatamente na proporção geral da frontaria, no delicado portal renascentista, na robusta e sóbria torre sineira. E torna a sê-lo lá dentro nas magníficas decorações do tecto, festa dos olhos que não se cansam de percorrer volutas, medalhões e mais elementos, onde não faltam figuras enigmáticas e pouco canónicas; é-o também no túmulo do Alcaide mor de Óbidos e de sua mulher, obra atribuída ao fertilíssimo Nicolau de Chanterenne e que é sem dúvida do mais belo do que o renascimento produziu; é-o igualmente pelas pinturas de Josefa de Ayala [Josefa d’Óbidos] (…)”

Esta é sem dúvida uma foto original de Óbidos. O pov e o formato ficaram muito bem, com parte da muralha em primeiro plano, os telhados em escada e a igreja ao fundo.

só faltava dizeres no WS "another church" :)) Bom dia Paulo, o título não podia ser mais bem escolhido para esta bela composição vertical. Quase que sinto que posso fazer aquele desporto de Paris, em que os tipos andam nos telhados a saltar de prédio em prédio - esta imagem dá a ilusão que é só ir saltando por aí fora até chegar...ao céu. Parece-me que a luz não foi a mais favorável (mais uma vez) mas safaste-te bastante bem com os teus jogos de pp. Gosto muito da inclusão do muro de pedra aqui à frente a convidar ao 1º salto.

Very clever idea to capture these beautiful roofs over roofs! The title of the shot is fully appropriate to this case. I think that a tiled roof is a very decorative element of any building, but if there are several of them united by a good idea, then a nice picture results. Very well done!

magnífico pov e enquadramento, a sucesão de telhados que levam até a torre bem lusa é fantástica, linda vista. valia apena uma versão em B&P já que as cores não são o forte da compo. muito bonito os ciprestes as emoldurar a cena. bem feita. parabéns

Hello Paulo, there's no need a roofway to heaven. Obidos is the heaven itself :) Despite the difficult light conditions, you've managed well. Maybe it would even be much better, if you had cropped the first 1/5 part from the bottom, till the edge of the first roof, by excluding the soil and partly visible windows (this is my personal opinion of course).

Hello Paulo, you did have dificult light on this one but the allignment of the roofs and church is so strong that we forget about the washdout sky. Great great POV and composition with good sharpness
