Photographer’s Note

On the way to Xe Pian NBCA we met women fishing on the side of the road. They were sitting by a pond and watching huge nets lying on the bottom. From time to time they were lifting up those nets filled with gazillions of micro-fish. In couple of proficient moves they were taking off net content into the baskets and nets went down again. No bigger than two inches fish looked useless but our guide said they are going to make Padaek which is a traditional condiment of Lao cuisine made of fermented fish.

It was great to watch them not only because I have never seen this kind of fishing nor because they are so colorful. Those women seemed to have a great fun doing their work and our company did not disturb them at all.
