Christmas Italian Folk Music Photo

Photographer’s Note

Italy is a land of great artists, poets and musicians. Nowadays every Italian town has its own open market with street festivals, so that a native or a foreign travaller can enjoy the roots of the creative and artistic spirit.

I met these musicians in the streets of the ancient town of Padua (Padova in Italian). The shape of the bag pipe seemed somewhat strange to me , but the music sounded very familiar - as would sound familiarly festive to almost all European listeners.

Hello Anton,

A very nice capture, in one of Italy's most historic cities. The composition, colors and textures are all demonstrated. Of course, for me the most important sites in this city were the historic university, where the surgery theater could be seen, and the Scrovegni Chapel, where Giotto's masterpieces are visible. Did you get to see these two sites?

Great capture of this street scene with the musicians. I've never seen this Italian costume, but I'm not surprised to see it in northern Italy because it's similar to Bavarian and Austrian traditional cloths, actually those hats are specific for that area..I like it!

What a funny group! I like their clothes, especially the little bells. You captured them very well. The photo is very sharp, with good light.

Hi Anton. You are right about the bagpipes, we have the Scottish version here and it gets played at all the major parades. Well captured photo with good colours and sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

So, seems you returned very early. I was expecting your return from Italy, end of January 2009!

You captured a funny scene, I almost missed the scenes after 25 years later. A good one that describes the life's goes mostly on streets in Italy. Congratulations.

Hello Anton, I looked at this for a long time, I was very interested in the winter clothes, their hats (Alpini ?), as you mentioned the bagpipes, very different to the Scottish I normally see. A very colourful, natural looking image with excellent detail & clarity, Beautifully done.
