Photographer’s Note
stilts are passed down from generation to generation. they go out fishing twice every day (except, for the twelve poya (full moon) days a year), 3-4 hrs in the morning between 5:30-10:00 and in the late afternoon, between abt 3:00 to sunset. the tiny fish they catch sell for 4 rupees/pc (abt 3.5 cents), on a good day they catch 2-300, on a bad day only 50-100. they're movements reminded me of the gracefulness of fencers.

Hello Mark
Quite unusual indeed and totally in the spirit of TE to discover the world through photography! Yes looking like a ballet of puppets. Surprised by this kind of activity but also by the density of fishermen on a rather small space
Have a good end of 2008 and best wishes for 2009

Hello Mark,
You got fantastic lights here and working in B&W medium right choice for increasing splendid contrasts and tonality. Their silhouettes just speechless while using traditional way of fishing. Congratulations.
With my best new year wishes to you and your family.
Best Regards,

An impressive shot, Mark. The bl/w is good choice, as it puts all the focus on the silhouettes. I also like the positioning of that one guy smack dab in the middle of the scene. Wow!

Hi Mark!
This is a beautiful shot and it shows a very genuine activity in Sri Lanka. I like the composition and your option for the b&w.In this case I like both versions, yours and Andreas's Ws.

Hi Mark,
good account on this kind of fishing, I didn't know it. Very interesting to show people at work all around the world.
Good compo of all these fishermen on their stilts, they look like martyrs on their cross or something.
Good light, that show only their silhouettes.
And good B&W treatment with this grain, it reinforces the atmosphere.

unusual, a bit surreal scene. like how the silhouettes disperse in the scene, nice contrejour effect that works very well here.
cheers,
Cristian
