Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken on a train in Moscow Underground; I don't remember when exactly it was taken but definitely in 2008.
By this photo I want to express my attitude to human stupidity, vanity, ignorance, shortsightedness, shallowness, anger, inability to concentrate on very important things in our (short as it is!) life.
I know: the quality of the image leaves much much to be desired, and this shot was taken secretly (I know: many will not like such kinds of secret shots which "violate the privacy"). Well, it's up to you!
You can just look at this photo and go farther... you can leave a comment - whatever you think! Points or no points - I am not a point hunter. I just want to share my emotions.
I AM FED UP !!!!

Hello Elena,
This is really the kind of picture where the interpretation is up to the viewer. For all that I know, the young man may be studying maths at university and the woman may be a retired architect looking angry because of a pain in her back.
On the other hand, leaning towards your attitude I find it rather interesting. The man's blurred face gets a highly symbolic meaning: total emptiness, no clear thoughts, absolute indifference to the surroundings. He looks a bit creepy, really.
And again, going a long way home by public transport is not much fun anywhere. People don't smile a lot in the Stockholm undergound either.
Anyway, this picture is a nice surprise and the kind I would like to see more of.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Elena
This is your new style, isn't it ?
Actually I have to admit I always break "secretly (I know: many will not like such kinds of secret shots which "violate the privacy")" which you said in note. Specially in Japan "the right of portrait" is very controversial and sensitive matter. Fortunately I have not yet been given the penalty. Congratulation on your development forward to the new area !
Best regards and many thanks

Hello Elena, yes this photo brings us many expressions and
we can see anger and ignorance.. when I look at this old woman's face I'm like to say : isn't it deja vu ? because I have seen many similar faces sitting, walking, talking around me and
despite taking secret shot this is the real quality of photography.. I've learned from this image.
big thanks

Hello Elena
A very different photo from you demonstrating that life is too short to bear grudges. Perhaps she has just received some devastating news?
I especially like how you have (by chance I am sure) captured the man's face in motion. It is fitting that you have turned the image into black and white but this photo could be taken on many public transport systems of this world. Thank you again, Marlene

Bonjour Elen

Hello Elena,
I like those candid shots, although I don't do it much and I wouldn't like to be photographed like this :)
Those expressions can be read in many ways, but the face of the woman made me laugh out loud! Thanks for that! :D
Have a nice weekend,
Sneza

I don't see the poit of posting this photo on TE. Sorry.
You know that I like you and your works, but here I just don't see the point. But I really like you and your works! Despite the political disagree, Fanni!

Tovariš Elena,
I like your idea and your sever look at your everyday. But you are not sure if these two men don't have the intelligent thinks or so emotional. The time is long in the train even train underground. I appreciate your capacities to look and to realize.
I wish you wonderful year 2009!

dear Elena,
an excellent record of people has a room for feeling and imagining lots of life things.
and in almost cases, the photographer's content of feeling and imagining and those of viewers' are rather different each other.
then to my regret, I can't help being doubtful of their ability of imagination and sensation in this TE...
anyway, I'll note my thinking,
the most interesting point in this shot is in the contrast between his blurred face and her severe face, though they are sitting side by side.
he looks like losing his fixed presence in this modern community, perhaps he doesn't have both hope and despair, and maybe both manic and depression, just like a puppet without strings.
and she seems to me that she has been watching and undergoing experienced excess things that surely exhausted her body and soul.
in the underground train, two dreary and disconsolate existences are flowed from dark to dark. and other people may be not so distinguished from this young man and old woman.
really we can imagine something important in this shot, of course my feeling may be quite beside the point, but this real air is not so different from my imagination.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Elena,
A very interesting candid photo with a lot of substance. As usual, I agree with Gert, he is the journalist and knows how to use words (I´m just an engineer...). I like the photo, that´s enough for me!

Hello Elena, I understand your message, life is so short & most of us get caught up with & waste so much energy on trivial matters that serve no purpose. I like this shot & one that in my opinion is very suitable & appropriate here, the quality is quite good maybe it lacks a little contrast but that is only my opinion & you have all discovered I am not an expert.
I had time to look at your comments before they removed my last posting ( another trivial matter not worth getting angry at but---- ) & I thank you.
My Sincere Regards
Santo

Hi Elena
Dramatic ambiance of sadness but interesting scene even if the man face is blured.
I saw same ambiance in Paris Metro especially when it's time to go to work.
I don't consider my Trekers fellers as Point hunters :)
Greetings from Orléans while waiting the new year.

"" By this photo I want to express my attitude to human stupidity, vanity, ignorance, shortsightedness, shallowness, anger, inability to concentrate on very important things in our (short as it is!) life. ""
Where are all those things in your picture, Elena ?
And, what would you be fed up about, exactly...?
And finally... What IS your attitude, dear...?
Pretty good photo, though ...
Have a great 2009 (even though - I have my doubts ) :-)))

Hi Elena,
I like looking at the faces ansd I like reading the notes other posted to you too. Thanks for giving the opportunity to share the ideas and the perspective of life. As we know everybody has their worldview adhere to their mind. so be it. We enjoy life as much as we can as it is very very short. Thanks Elena for creating the space of discussion, and the views shared.
I could say that human personality does not differ much.
tegards,
Foozi
