The Salt Pans of Trapani & Paceco
The WWF Reserve of Trapani and Paceco extends from Trapani to Salina Grande comprising the area near & including the Salt Museum at Nubia, In 1991 this area comprising of approx. one thousand hectares was instituted a Natural Reserve. In 1995 the Reserve was entrusted to the WWF. The Museum is open all year round, but the salt production begins in March and ends in September. The first collection occurs in June. This area is also famous for the extensive and unique flora like “Salicornia”, “Mandragora”, “Fungus of Malta”, etc. Also an ideal place for keen birdwatchers where the Knight of Italy, the Avocetta and many other migrating bird stop during their voyage. It is not unusual to see many Flamingos feeding on the red shrimps near these salt pans.
Sometimes the salt remained on site for quite a while before being transported; traditionally these Salt Mounds were covered with Terra Cotta tiles to protect them against the weather (rain & wind).

Hello Santo,
From Treviso, you have traveled all the way down to Trapani on the western tip of Sicily seems like a long way. Surely you have seen and captured a lot of shots on the way. I can imagine that a driving photo holiday would be perfect.
What I really like here is a well composed picture with saturated and contrasting colours, such as that of the salt and terra cotta tiles. Your POV also allows the light to create a nice texture on the salt mount, and the inclusion of the distant hills create an excellent sense of depth. The glow on the clouds against a deep blue sky is certainly very appealing.
Best regards and take care,
Alfred

Hi Santo.
I really like the under-exposure of this one. At least, it looks like that to me. This has not only preserved the details in the salt mounds, but made the cloud stand out more brilliantly against the deep blue of the sky. Good composition to juxtapose the front mound with the more distant mountain. The note is very interesting, too.

Andrew

Hi Santo,
Very good white balance, the salt is sparkling and not a pixel is overexposed.
Good POV, looking along the mounds of salt gives us a good idea of their size, and your composition is first class, the mounds are balanced perfectly by the clouds hanging above.
A very good capture.

Ciao Santo
I like this POV better than your earlier post because the composition has better shape and form in the salt hill with white/brown colors, in comparison to the natural hill behind.
The formation of clouds above are well placed at the hills with the blue sky balance at top left side, as if you take into account the layout of the area in this shot and giving a sense that you are in control.
Good clarity and sharpness in this bright scenery.

Hello Santo,
they look like Egyptian pyramides! :) And the clouds over them float like huge birds of a strange shape. Very beautiful colours (well, being a painter, I appreciate good colours very much!) Good composition. Anf such a funny effect!

Hi Santo,
The color contrast is very good in this picture. I quite like the comparison between the big mountain and the salt dune, the cloud also adds a point of interest in the frame.
Thanks for sharing

Ciao Santo,
Your picture has a very good composition and nice natural colours. I specially like these salt hills covered with tiles. I've never seen that before but I understand it's a good protection.
I also like those big clouds right above the salt hills.

Ciao Santo,
Ciao
Paolo
