Photographer’s Note

I was doing a California road trip, after going to a pal's wedding in Yosemite, but landed up for a while in Nevada.

There was a white water rodeo event going on - the Reno River Festival.

Some of the kayakers, limbering up for a freestyle (rodeo) event were amazingly skilled, looping, rolling and playing on the waves doing super pop-outs and all the other tricks & stuff.

There were crowds of folk there and the temperature was in the high 80s so it proved an excellent sight.

I had been rafting, climbing and skiing the previous week so I was well into the groove, but despite itchy paddle fingers, it was good to watch and shoot photos of the action and the crowds.

I looked this out as I had seen another picture of the river on Trekearth.

The river is the Truckee, named after a native American chief, which runs from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake (both amazing sights).

At Reno they opened the Truckee River Whitewater Park in 2004 and it seemed very popular and a delight for paddlers.
