Photographer’s Note
Yes, yes, I know...not my usual post.
And yes, there are thousand of lake photos here on TE, but you see, none of those is mine...
This one could not be more postcard cliché as it is but I do not really care.
This is Bled. One of most visited places in Slovenia. A real jewel. It has a lake...it has an island in the middle of it...on this island there is a church with a bell tower...
It also has a castle overlooking the lake (left from the island there is a small structure on the rock)...oh and it has ducks...many many of most friendly (= hungry) ducks...And some swans...And wooden boats named pletna. The important information here is that are not motorized...and that they are made of wood :) Oh yes, and carriages with horses, many times used for couples that just got married...
And I must not forget...it is also famous for "kremšnita" (Bled cream cake, although the slovenian version of the name most probably comes from deutsch Creme + Schnitte = Kremšnita). It is a cream slice made of leaves of dough, filled with vanilla and sweet cream that was invented after the Second World War and is now Bled’s main culinary speciality.
Ok, I think that's it.
For more information please click here .
No, there is one thing left to say. We have an artist Andrej Rozman - Roza (writer, actor, poet and dramatist) and he wrote a monodrama and there is a part that explains how the Slovenian got his land...
You see...God already distributed all the Earth land among all other nations and this was not ok with a Slovenian. So he went to God nagging about leaving him out. After negotiating for a while God realised that maybe also a Slovenian deserves a piece of land, so he said: oh well...it is not much but it has all the most beautiful places I wanted to keep for myself... :)))

Even though it isn't your "common style" of photos, it's a wonderful one - a winter fairy tale indeed. A really worth showing scenery. A photo to marvel ...

I love this shot from bledske jezero...btw I have been there in Autumn 2001 (in that season the lake is particularly colourful and romantic) but this winter POV is delicious as well.
I like the frozen tones...providing some romantic and will to hug! interesting note and funny story as well

PS: although I don't have practically so many pics of it, I am also Berlin addicted (been already 6 times there between 1997 and 2006)....supplied the Berliner U-Bahn with brake discs during my former occupation...and love dogs as well!

Hi Jeri,
I've been to beautiful Bled twice before (10 and 11 years ago :D, I didn't take photos at that time), but I can clearly remember how enchanting this lake is with the small island in the middle.
Your photo is fantastic, the most i like is the desaturated colours, but the contrast is also great! I can just complain about the tooo wide frame that takes space from this wonderful photo! ((:
Congratulations and TFS!

Seveda vsi smo že objavili slike tega biserja ki ponovno razdvaja Slovencljne na ene in druge in prav je da storiš tudi ti. Posebi če je slika tako dobra.

Bonjour Jorgi,
I know this place so charming but also Bohinjska Bistrica where I spent a very good stay near the lake approximately 12 years ago! We had a room in an old lady 's home who spoke only Slovenian and who absolutely wanted to give us slivovica for the breakfast! In summer it is a very beautiful landscape, but there it is a delight with this first snow which still hesitates to cover the landscape.
This composition only made of white, blue and gray is full with poetry and delicacy. It carries well your borrows!

hi Jeri,
judging from this photo the story about the creation of Slovenia might very well be true, the view is breathtakingly beautiful. picture perfect, I would even say :) I particularly like how the light snow brings out all the details on the mountains, if you look close enough, you can see every single tree. and those who decided to build the church RIGHT THERE must have had painters or photographers in mind :) technically impeccable work, my compliments.

Hi Jerica
I like how you didnt over saturate the scene with deep rich greens and a sky so blue that one can mistake it for a cartoon scene...dont get me wrong, sometimes we like the oversaturated colors...for it does to our eyes what saccerine laden soft drinks do to our taste buds...a jolt of joy and stupor and then a lasting bitter aftertaste...like most experiences in life
....but you havent done that to this image...its a normal image, on the scale of 'hit the senses'...it pierces the senses slowly and gently...one of those images which appears when you close the eyes...when you want to feel normal
thanks for sharing

nobody could have write a better note than a Slovenian !
the photo is a classic, indeed, but not a postcard, as in my opinion a postcard should focus more on the subject, and it would be done with a higher focal length
indeed, Slovenia is small, but it's full of nice places, in my short visit in your country

Hi Jeri
Peaceful, beautiful, attractive and cold.
just reminded me one of my favourite songs:
"Zima je bila sa puno snijega
Cek'o sam za Travnik vezu
Stresla je snijeg s plave kose
Cekajuci voz za Brezu
Zima je bila s puno snijega
Vozovi mnogo novih lica nose
Ali nje nema da kao onda
Strese snijeg sa svoje kose..."

Hi Jeri,
very postcard like but I don not care either, this is beautiful. The blue tones the refelction...top-notch. And to build on Didier's remark, the bame of this place do sounds strange to my French ears. 'Bled' is the -slang- french word for small village. So it's kinda of funny to know a place called 'Bled'..."Bled! tu connais pas ce bled?" ...enough with the crappy jokes anyhow....Well done!
Take care,

Hello Jeri,
I've been going back and forth on this for several days. I've never awarded a "yellow monkie" before, and I feel guilty for doing it to you. Why?
Of course it's a technically good photo. I understand you wanting to post a postcard of your country.
The problem is not your fault-but you are blessed, and maybe cursed with the burden of brilliance. I'm sorry to be so selfish as to expect more than a mere "fotka" from you. But really, compare it to your other efforts, and it's just an image. There is no feeling here, just a pretty (though good) picture.
I suppose I would be mad if I had this critique if I were you, but the truth is I don't have anywhere near your talent and expression, but it makes me a bit mad to know I'm a hack who can't get above "fotkas", and you have all the skill, and it also pains me that you can get by with said "fotka".
Having said that very selfish critique, life is not just misery, then you die. It's misery, fun, misery, fun, misery, misery, misery, fun, THEN you die.
Farah :)

dear Jeri,
beautiful place itself is not beautiful, the place is merely the place.
the breath (or bless) of the god make it beautiful? no I don't think so.
the only element that makes one place beautiful is, in my feeling,
the despair, the despair to beautifulness, and the tears of its result.
the beautifulness may be like this island floating on dark bluish water in your shot.
this water reflects the view from light blue sky to dark blue ripples, why?
the answer is, the water hides the deep despair in it,
and of course the water is made of tears of despair.
human being is originally presence of despair, and all life is situated by it.
therefor wisdom without despair is nonsense.
and then, in a floating tiny top of island above the dark desperate water,
we can have a chance to feel the beautifulness made from the despair...
I thought this when I felt your dark blue tone of this shot,
thank you,
Akihisa

I like decisive moments and people/street photography, but I landscapes as well, tremendously.
This one is beautiful. the colors are soft and the reflection smooth. Slovenia looks beautiful on your picture.
I read a discussion you had with another member on this photo. I have a couple of comments to tell about this if you don't mind. I don't think photographs all have to be decisive moments, or good close-up portraits. It's not a question of talent or expression, it's a question of taste. You felt like posting this picture, because you liked it, it meant something to you and thought it might touch someone, perfect. No one should judge you for posting this "style" of photo. And I prefer someone who can play with many different styles with talent and taste.
And I get from this discussion that you think before posting a picture. You don't post just any picture. You choose them carefully, study them make sure the picture means something to you. That's my way of doing it as well. You sort of grow up on what you like and what you don't like when doing this and this "growing up" is reflected on your photography when you go back out to shoot.
I'm not lecturing you...I was just thinking out loud. And I thought you were told words that had no sense...I felt like giving my 2 cents on this.
Back to your picture. Technically, it could be in a textbook. Everything is smooth and our eyes just flow through the frame. rule of third, balance of colors, exposure, etc. But it's not just that. Today, you've given me the taste to go to your country and explore it. I've learnt that in Slovenia, there are nice mountains, beautiful lakes with islands with nice churches and very intelligenta and humble people.
all the best,
Marc

Jeri,
si pa začela po desni prehtevat, tolk si produktivna.
Res je, tole ni tvoj žanr. Kot pišeš je tudi klišejska, ampak so what. zgleda, da na bledu vsi slikamo, če smo le tam.
Všeč so mi obledele barve (v slovenščini še jezikoslovno pašejo), nice touch. Se mi zdi da otok kot center pozornosti zavzema nekoliko premalo prostora.
