Photographer’s Note

For our anniversary last May, my hubby took me to my favorite place, the beach. I've always wanted to hike out to Cape Lookout, but in all the years I've visited the Oregon Coast I hadn't been able to do it. Until this year that is, finally! And it was worth the 4.8 mile hike for sure.

This is one of the first spots along the Cape with a view of the beach to the south through the trees. This first view south, is just above the site where a B-17 bomber crashed into the cape's 800-foot cliffs on a foggy day in 1943. There is a plaque commemorating this event on the cliff face.

At the tip of the cape, red paintbrush, white yarrow and scarlet fireweed brighten a clifftop meadow 400 feet above the waves. A stunning view for sure!
