Photographer’s Note
While visiting my oldest daughter in Prineville, Oregon, my middle daughter and I hiked around the loop of Smith Rock State Park. This shot was taken on the way back out after our hike. It shows off someof the rock formations and has a sign explaining the geology of the area. We started our hike at 6am and finished by 10am....getting out before the days heat started. We saw several deer on our visit this time, and I even got a shot of a grey heron sitting by the stream seen in the background here.
Smith Rock State Park encompasses 651 acres on the Oregon high desert plateau which hovers around 3000 feet in elevation.
There are over 1500 climbing routes in and
around the park ranging from some of the best sport climbs in the world to... “Why would anyone want to climb that pile of choss”.
People climb year-round, but summer temperatures
can reach 100+ degrees (f), and in the dead of
winter the thermometer stays close to the freezing
mark (32f) during the day. Spring and fall are
the most popular climbing months.

Hello Lori,
What an exceptional angle to highlight the trail and rocks! Excellent post here, wish I was there also, especially in the winter w/snow...

Lori
You have captured a great depth of colour in the rock formations of this image which give it depth.
Regards
Colin
