several criticisms about this pic (hope u don't mind):
- not sharp enough
- girl's hair is distracting and unflattering, and blocks her features
- i wonder if b/w is a good choice here, since the object she's painting looks colorful
i would suggest a more frontal view at a lower angle in color would be better. close-up with wide angle lens would make it dramatic.

Can this really be the first ever shot of Japan on TE??

Or even the first ever photo on TE from any country??

For that achievement alone I give this a :D

But the image also shows a cute, quite sweet, moment here. The girl's face is obscured which also adds some mystery to the image.

I am surprised this does not have more comments... even though it is not a brilliant image, it is the first.

No eye contact. Girl's arm and back are missing. Her hair is covering most of her face. She is painting, yet image is black and white. Other than that, welcome.

Dear Adam,
I would like to say a big Congratulation to you on the first shot of the site for 5th anniversary of the TE ! happy birth day of Trekearth!
and I'm Thankful for all your help and create of the atmosphere(site) that we can share our photos and comments and make a friendly comuncation here,I take my Hat !
the shot,...I like the way that we can recognize the nation of the girl by her eyes form !
well worked in B&W,in compare with works in these days,in point of size,it's small,yes,lack of sharpness and high contrast are its problems.but I like the childish atmosphere of the photo,too.a good work as first post of you and TE !

Why not come here after more then 5 years and 636,276 uploaded images. This is the first stepping stone in what has become a great adventure in photography.
