[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the Hood Mockingbird, photographed on the beach when we first moored at Punta Suárez, Española Island in the Galápagos Archipelago.

There are actually four species of Mockingbird in the Galápagos Islands. They are all very bold, inquisitive birds and they will often come to investigate tourists when they first land on the beach, strutting around their feet, poking into anything you put down on the sand such as your bag or snorkelling gear!

Seeds and insects are their main diet but they will also eat smashed eggs and have even been seen picking the ticks off of Land iguanas!

They are very social birds that live in strongly territorial families. Previous broods help their parents with the next clutch of chicks, feeding the youngsters and warning off intruders.

Have a look at the other photo I have added to the workshop to see how unafraid these little birds are of people.

Regards,

Rich

Hi Richard,

a good photo comes from a proper equipment (70-300mm) and, of course, good sense and technique. You have both of them! Congrats!
Regards,
Carlos
