Photographer’s Note
I went to the very small rural village of Llulluchani with a group of volunteers to repaint and repair the local school (a modest two-room building). During the two days of the project, we painted the roof, furniture, interior (after sanding all of the walls), and painted a new sign for the front. The villagers helped with a lot of the work - the men spread the concrete and plaster for the outside walls, and the women helped to cook for the group. Many children came from afar down the dirt paths to watch the foreigners at work (they had most likely never seen non-Bolivians before). In spite of language difficulties - the campesinos spoke quechua almost exlusively and we only had one (much appreciated) translator - children are children and they were in a playful mood, as you can see here.
