A chance of scene. The Lost World of Venezuela’s south is made up by a table mountain system that had its origin in the Precambrian Era 1.8 billion years ago! Life as we know it did not exist in the primeval earth of Pangea. Surrounding these huge mesa system one can find a tropical rain forest with a great biodiversity reservoir. Its location, north of the Equator, places this national park within the Inter Tropic Convergence Zone thus allowing for a high rainfall throughout the year. In turn, the high runoff makes Canaima the water falls park of Venezuela. Here, Angel Falls, the world highest, plunges 995 meters into the forest below. The power of its waters plunging down makes one feel winds like those of a permanent hurricane. Auyantepuy, the table mountain from which it falls is well over 500 square kilometers, a giant in its own right.
